Jets Overcome 13-Point Road Halftime Deficit for 1st Time Ever

Bleacher Report MilestonesNov 2, 2016

The New York Jets accomplished a franchise first in Sunday's 31-28 win over the Cleveland Browns, overcoming a 13-point halftime deficit on the road to pick up a victory for the first time ever in team history, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Led by quarterback Josh McCown—who returned from a broken collarbone to play for the first time since Week 2—the Browns took a 10-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and held a 20-7 lead at the break, with kicker Cody Parkey converting a 27-yard chip-shot field goal on the final play of the first half.

The Jets responded with a 78-yard drive coming out of the half, cutting the lead to 20-14 when wide receiver Quincy Enunwa caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Following a Cleveland punt, the Jets put together an eight-play, 84-yard drive, capped off by a four-yard Matt Forte touchdown run to give the team its first lead of the day (21-20) late in the third quarter.

With the deficit in their rearview mirror, the Jets extended the lead to 31-20 during the fourth quarter, bringing their run of consecutive points to 24.

The Browns did score a late touchdown to make it look better, but by that point the Jets' second-half dominance had more than done the trick.

Prior to Sunday, the Jets had a 0-71 record (including playoffs) in road games in which they trailed by 13 or more points at halftime.

The late rally, while impressive, was likely too little, too late when looking at the season-long picture. The Jets enter Week 9 sitting in last place in the AFC East at 3-5.
