WWE Hell in a Cell 2016 Results: Twitter Reacts to Top Stars, Moments and More

Erik BeastonOct 30, 2016

The most dangerous structure in professional wrestling was at the center of Sunday's Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, and with championships up for grabs in three massive cage bouts, the WWE Universe took to Twitter to express its excitement and frustration with the Raw brand's latest WWE Network offering.

Which Superstars, matches and moments garnered the most publicity on the social media platform?

Take a look.

Roman Reigns Inside the Cell

The night's proceedings kicked off with Roman Reigns battling Rusev inside Hell in a Cell, the United States Championship up for grabs. Reigns, as he did back at Night of Champions, emerged victorious in a match that split the fanbase.

Bleacher Report's official account praised the hard-hitting match, as did 3 Count Thursday.

B/R's Ryan Dilbert, though, was not as supportive of the contest.

Noted wrestling writer Scott Fishman took exception with the finish and outcome of the bout.

The match certainly lacked the spark that fans likely expected, but the build was steady and featured the right guy going over, whether you love or hate him. Now both men are freed up to go their separate ways, something that must happen as soon as possible.

The Gift of Jericho Invades Universal Title Match

The match between Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens built steadily over the course of its 23 minutes, but it was the heavy involvement of Chris Jericho that dominated discussion.

Historian Kris Zellner admitted that the match was a bit overbooked, but that was not necessarily a bad thing.

B/R's Mike Chiari liked the match but had a problem with Jericho's involvement.

Jonathan Snowden of Bleacher Report chimed in with a GIF that summed up the chaotic nature of the bout's final few minutes.

Earlier in the bout, Owens pulled the athletic tape from Rollins' back, which the commentary team suggested would do great damage to the babyface.

B/R's Steven Rondina called B.S., explaining with great precision and accuracy why that was not the case.

Prior to the match, Zellner pointed out a staggering statistic surrounding Rollins' pay-per-view streak and suggested it is time that The Architect take a step back from the main event scene.

Total Wrestling magazine noted the subtlety of Owens' apparent dismay for Jericho's music playing to end the segment, just moments after Y2J laid out Rollins and seemingly set in motion a feud between the future Hall of Famer and The Architect.

The match was a train wreck, but in the best way imaginable. It had high spots, overbooking that made sense within the context of the story and a finish in which the right man went over and a potential rivalry was set up for the loser to submerge himself in.

Banks. Charlotte. Hell in a Cell. History.

The hype for Sunday's event was centered around the historic Raw Women's Championship match between Charlotte and Sasha Banks inside Hell in a Cell, and rightfully so. The Twitterverse did not hesitate to make it apparent to the entire world what match it considered the main event.

The match started inauspiciously enough, with an injury angle that had some wondering if the contest would end in screwy fashion as Banks endured a wicked powerbomb through the announce table and looked to be on her way out of the arena on a stretcher.

While that may have been a spot designed to increase heat early, there was real concern about Banks' health as the match went on, something expressed by Nattie, Bryan Alvarez, Pro Wrestling Magazine, TDE Wrestling and Bear Hug It Out.

SoCal Val jokingly asked whether or not she should concern herself with pampering when two of her fellow women of wrestling were putting it all on the line in a hard-hitting main event.

The match was full of twists, turns and emotions, but the outcome, which saw Charlotte regain the title for a third time, led some to question the booking decisions WWE made.

Of course, yours truly called it 14 hours prior to the actual finish, but who is counting?

Amy "Lita" Dumas, one of the pioneering women in WWE history, was choked up following the contest.

Fellow Superstars Carmella, Summer Rae, Lana and Eva Marie paid respects to the competitors.

Bear Hug It Out sarcastically addressed the finish of the match, which some considered lackluster, while Mick Foley's son Dewey thanked the ladies for their performances.

Love or hate the finish, the contest delivered in spades and capped off what was a better-than-expected show.
