WWE Hell in a Cell 2016: Bold Predictions for PPV

Ryan DilbertOct 28, 2016

WWE Hell in a Cell 2016 on Sunday will mark the end of an alliance, a championship reign and the Match of the Year race.

Sunday's Raw-exclusive pay-per-view in Boston promises brutality, thanks to its three Hell in a Cell matches, but recent foreshadowing also points to a betrayal. A fun-to-watch friendship is in danger of falling apart for the sake of kicking off a new feud.

What else is in store when Cesaro and Sheamus challenge The New Day, Sasha Banks and Charlotte collide and Kevin Owens looks to crush Seth Rollins inside The Devil's Playground? Let's dive into some of the biggest surprises the PPV will offer.

Cesaro and Sheamus Will End The New Day's Historic Reign

1 of 4

The New Day will fall short Sunday.

The trio is closing in on Demolition's longstanding record of 478 days as tag team champions, sitting at the 431-day mark as of this writing, per WWE.com. But despite their antagonism for each other, Cesaro and Sheamus will derail The New Day's chase for history.

Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have fended off everyone from Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson to The Usos. They have dominated the tag team scene for two years now.

WWE is sure to get itchy and look to switch things up. The New Day is due for a new direction—becoming the hunters rather than the hunted or even splitting up for a while.

Plus, WWE has always had a soft spot for the story of teammates who dislike each other managing to score a surprise title win.

Team Hell No did it in 2012. The Rock 'n' Sock Connection, Dude Love and Steve Austin and Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit did it before them.

Cesaro and Sheamus have spent much of their time as partners bickering or ignoring each other. They are poised to come together just long enough to upend The New Day.

After all, The King of Swing and The Celtic Warrior are fresh off besting the champs in non-title action on the Oct. 24 episode of Raw.

Braun Strowman Will Lay Someone Out

2 of 4

An enraged Braun Strowman will storm into Hell in a Cell, making an impact despite not having a match on the PPV.

Strowman has demanded better competition of late. Raw general manager Mick Foley has tried to appease the monster by feeding him more than one jobber at a time. It hasn't been enough.

The big man is still unsatisfied, even after Sami Zayn looked to challenge him.

WWE can advance this narrative in a huge way by having Strowman attack some unsuspecting babyface Sunday. Perhaps he clobbers cruiserweight champ T.J. Perkins or runs over announcer Byron Saxton, inspiring Zayn to come down and save the day.

As much as WWE has built up Strowman, it will be surprising to see him not charge onto the scene with his fangs bared.

Sasha Banks and Charlotte Will Put on the Match of the Year

3 of 4

Sasha Banks and Charlotte have a history of living up to and exceeding expectations.

Banks delivered two instant classics against Bayley last year, including in the first women's Iron Man match of all time. The Boss, Charlotte and Becky Lynch stole the show at WrestleMania 32 during the biggest women's match of all time. And when WWE slotted Banks vs. Charlotte as the main event of Raw on Oct. 3, the champion and challenger put on a hell of a show.

Now that they will represent the women's division inside Hell in a Cell, the spotlight is on them again.

The pressure will be immense. The chips on Banks' and Charlotte's shoulders will be massive. That will be especially true if WWE snubs them by not making them the headliners.

With their feet on the pedals and their stirring rivalry on center stage, Banks and Charlotte will deliver once more.

There is sure to be palpable electricity throughout the contest. The women are sure to hit some memorable, heart-stopping spots. And their great chemistry will propel them to something special.

Look out, AJ Styles vs. John Cena and Sami Zayn vs. Shinsuke Nakamura—Banks vs. Charlotte is coming for that Match of the Year prize.

Jeri-KO Will Implode

4 of 4

The cracks between Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens have already formed. They will widen to the point of no return at Hell in a Cell.

On the Oct. 17 episode of Raw, Owens inadvertently cost Jericho his match against Seth Rollins. Backstage, Jericho yelled at KO and came close to calling him a "stupid idiot." Jericho has previously eyed his buddy's Universal Championship as well.

A split is coming. Jericho's popularity will see to that. Fans have already started treating him like a babyface.

Don't be surprised, then, if Owens turns on his best friend once he's done outlasting Rollins at the PPV.

WWE can set up a must-see feud between the two and end the Hell in a Cell match with a cliffhanger. Rollins, meanwhile, can start to zero in on his rivalry with Triple H, the man who betrayed him and allowed Owens an easy path to the title.
