Preview

Liverpool have made an impressive start to the season with 17 points from their first eight games, which leaves them two points off the top of the table.

Their form is all the more impressive when taking into account the quality of opposition they've faced, per Bleacher Report UK's Jack Lusby:

The Reds' upcoming fixtures, on paper, should be more straightforward—five are in the bottom half, while the top-half sides are eighth, ninth and 10th.

Against the lower standard of opposition, Liverpool are likely to face tactics similar to those employed by United in their last outing, with teams setting out to sit back and stifle the Reds' attacking play.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is aware the Reds need to improve in this regard and urged his team "to win against the bus-parking teams," when speaking to Goal's Melissa Reddy for Liverpool's kit manufacturer New Balance Football.

He also looked forward to West Brom's visit to Anfield (nine minutes onward):

Klopp said:

"

There will be a lot of set-pieces, 100 per cent. They're really strong at this.

[...]

We need to be really concentrated because we can't avoid these set-pieces, we have to defend them really well. Then they are really physically strong, you need to know about this, but as long as we have the ball they cannot do something else, they have to defend us.

"

It's likely Tony Pulis' side will set out in a similar manner to United and use the same tactic that earned them a point against Spurs in their last match.

West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster hinted the defensive approach is one the team will use against the bigger sides this season. Per BBC Sport's Aimee Lewis, he said: "It's a classic Tony Pulis team. When you come up against teams like Tottenham, you know you won't be able to outplay them."

The Reds were frustrated by United last time out, but as the Times' Henry Winter noted, they would have won the game if not for David De Gea's supreme performance:

Foster also played a key role in securing a draw for West Brom against Spurs, and the Baggies have only conceded eight goals this year, so Liverpool will face another tough challenge to score once again.

At the other end, they'll need to be wary of Nacer Chadli, per Squawka Football:

Set pieces proved the Reds' undoing against West Brom at Anfield last year, so Klopp is right to focus on them in his preparation for the game.

Liverpool need to be able to grind out results in these games if they're going to sustain a title challenge throughout the season—the match will be an intriguing encounter.
