Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Mauro Icardi and Joaquin Ardaiz

Gianni VerschuerenOct 16, 2016

Reported Liverpool and Arsenal transfer target Mauro Icardi has had a major falling out with Inter Milan's supporters, who have demanded the club revoke his captaincy. Elsewhere, Danubio's Joaquin Ardaiz is reportedly eyeing a move to a smaller club, as he seeks regular playing time.

Icardi's wife and agent Wanda Nara previously told Corriere della Sera (h/t London Evening Standard's James Benge) her husband was a transfer target for several big clubs during the summer, with Arsenal making contact and others keeping an eye on the situation.

The Argentine hitman ended up staying in the Italian fashion capital, but he has now incurred the wrath of the Inter ultras over a controversial chapter in his book.

As explained by Football Italia, Icardi wrote about standing up to a member of the ultras who tore a shirt from a child's hands and threw it back at the captain. He described himself as a hero in the eyes of his team-mates, but in a statement, the Curva Nord had a different view:

"

Icardi, as far as we are concerned, you’re finished. Why such squalid fiction? We are horrified, that book is ridiculous and with regards to that incident there are only lies.

[…] He talks about helping little kids, then invents an incident that never happened to make himself seem superior to us, as if it weren’t obvious to all that we are the only Curva that helps kids design the choreography in the stands.

There are no more excuses. We considered him young, a bit of an idiot (like many), but deep down a good lad. Instead this is an individual who cannot be allowed to wear the Inter armband. It's not for us, but Inter simply don't deserve this.

You are finished with us. You're done. TAKE THE ARMBAND OFF, YOU CLOWN. Yes, that is what we demand.

"

A falling out with the Inter supporters was the last thing Icardi needed after a summer of speculation and a tremendous start to the season. The Argentinian has already scored six Serie A goals, once again leading the line for a rebuilding Nerazzurri squad.

Inter have already booked a big win over Juventus this season, a match in which the 23-year-old played a leading role, but they've also suffered disappointing draws against the likes of Palermo and Bologna.

The club is trying to return to the top of Italian football, and Icardi is regarded as a key part in the rebuilding process. Here's a look at some of his highlights:

This latest setback will likely lead to a new round of transfer speculation, and if the relationship between Icardi and the Curva Nord is truly broken beyond repair, it wouldn't be a surprise if this time, a move came to fruition.

Icardi is a genuine ace striker who is equally adept at playing in space and dominating the box, and per Squawka Football, he's also a force in the air:

Inter will likely do whatever they can to repair the situation, but top clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal will undoubtedly keep a close eye on how everything develops over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, the Sun's Sunni Upal reported Danubio's Ardaiz wants to hold off on a move to Barcelona, Atletico Madrid or Liverpool in favour of a transfer to a smaller club.

The Uruguayan youngster previously told reporters he dreamt of playing in the Premier League, but given his relative lack of experience―he's just 17 years old―his progression would undoubtedly be aided by a move to a smaller club on the continent, where the pressure will weigh less on his shoulders.
