Chelsea Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Michy Batshuayi and Victor Lindelof

Christopher SimpsonOct 13, 2016

Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi is reportedly determined to be a success at Stamford Bridge and will not be leaving the club in January.

According to an exclusive from the Sun's Warren Haughton, Batshuayi has been linked with a move to AC Milan and a return to Olympique de Marseille in January, and he "is aware of interest in him from other clubs but is focused on making an impact" at Chelsea.

The Guardian's Ed Aarons offered a similar report earlier this month:

The 23-year-old joined for £33 million in the summer but has played just 52 minutes for Chelsea in the Premier League, kept out of the side by the in-form Diego Costa, who has notched six goals and two assists in seven league outings.

Bleacher Report UK's Garry Hayes believes there is room for both of them on the team:

Indeed, while the Belgian is not yet the finished article, it's worth noting he's bagged three goals and an assist for the Blues in 222 minutes of play in all competitions. Last year, Batshuayi got 23 and 10, respectively, with Marseille.

While he has thus far struggled to have a significant impact, it's far too early for Chelsea to think about cutting their losses on him after such an investment in the summer—and without him having had much of an opportunity to prove himself.

The Blues also have little cover up front beyond Batshuayi and Costa—if the Spain international gets injured or suspended, they'd leave themselves seriously short by allowing either to leave.

Meanwhile, according to Ivan Vargas of Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Thomas McIlroy of the Daily Star), Chelsea are interested in signing Benfica defender Victor Lindelof in January.

The Swede is reportedly attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain, per L'Equipe (h/t Bleacher Report UK's Jonathan Johnson):

Manchester United and four Serie A clubs are also rumoured to be interested in him. Portuguese football writer Jan Hagen offered an insight into why:

Indeed, here are some of his highlights from last year:

Chelsea could desperately use the centre-back to help them regain their solidity in defence.

If he's available for £25 million as McIlroy reported, he's an attainable purchase, but he's equally in reach of the Blues' rivals, so signing the in-demand star might be tricky.
