Preview
City won their first 10 games under Pep Guardiola in all competitions, before a 3-3 draw with Celtic and the defeat to Spurs put an end to their run.
Football journalist Rafael Hernandez believes the loss could be a blessing in disguise, but he noted there was still work to be done:
Indeed, Guardiola saw his side outfought and outran by the Lilywhites, who stunned them with their intensity.
Per the Sun's Andrew Dillon, City star Ilkay Gundogan is hoping the Citizens will return to winning ways at the Etihad Stadium but believes it will be a tough game:
"We knew that before the end of the season the day would come where we would lose a game.
Tottenham did it very well in the last game and they deserved it to win against us. We didn’t play our best football We can accept that and handle it. We are just looking forwards and try to focus for the next game coming, at home to Everton.
It will be really tough, a big challenge for us because they have a really good team.
"
Indeed, the Toffees have been resolute at the back this season, conceding just five goals, while Romelu Lukaku has started well with five Premier League goals to his name already.
Everton manager Koeman is a former team-mate of Guardiola's from their time at Barcelona.
The Dutchman revealed the pair are still close friends, per Sky Sports News HQ:
His side were going strong with four wins in succession, but a difficult spell leading up to the international break saw them knocked out of the EFL Cup by Norwich City, before losing to Bournemouth and drawing with Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Spurs have given them a blueprint with which to beat City, but it's unlikely Everton can sustain the same level of intensity so early in Koeman's tenure.
The Toffees are winless in six league games against City, and that record may well continue on Saturday.
