WWE No Mercy 2016: Feuds That Will Continue Through Survivor Series

Aaron BowerOct 13, 2016

Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan's announcement on SmackDown that the blue brand is looking for a number of traditional elimination matches at WWE Survivor Series 2016 on Nov. 20 suggests a few stars on the roster may pull double duty.

Just because there are going to be some traditional matches at Survivor Series doesn't mean the blue brand's big rivalries will step out of the limelight.

Expect a few of the rivalries that took place at No Mercy to carry on the next time SmackDown is on pay-per-view. These three are the leading contenders.

The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler

Is there any reason to end what is arguably SmackDown's hottest feud of the moment?

Both guys have delivered throughout the entirety of the rivalry, and Dolph Ziggler winning the Intercontinental Championship at No Mercy means this should continue for a good while.

There are plenty of interesting dynamics to keep the feud fresh, too. The Spirit Squad may well divide opinion, but with them working as The Miz's henchmen, it makes him look more powerful as a top heel.

Ziggler, too, has thrived in this rivalry, with excellent storytelling pushing him close to the end of his career at No Mercy.

With that renewed energy and enthusiasm, the rivalry will go from strength to strength. Both guys have done superb jobs of making the Intercontinental Championship prestigious again, so it shouldn't stop here.

Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton

A huge win for Bray Wyatt on pay-per-view at No Mercy could have been an ideal time to draw his rivalry with Randy Orton to a close.

Leave Wyatt with the big win, and have him come out on top in a big feud for once.

However, in this instance, all the indicators point to the best course of action being this rivalry carrying on for a good while.

The return of Luke Harper adds extra intrigue and interest, for starters. Orton's mission to take down The Eater of Worlds against all the odds looks a lot tougher with Harper by his side, and there is the opportunity for Orton and Wyatt to tell a fantastic story in the latter part of the year.

Wyatt's promos have sometimes lacked direction and intrigue. But with Orton, someone who he can play off quite well, they have been more fascinating and interesting than ever before.

The backstage segments between the two, with a real cat-and-mouse chase seeming to take place every week, are also enjoyable.

Perhaps have Orton score a big win at Survivor Series before Wyatt gets the decisive win after that. But don't end it just yet.

AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose

It is perhaps inevitable that AJ Styles will feud with at least one of the men he beat at No Mercy.

But expect John Cena's quest for a 16th world title to take a step backward in the short term. Dean Ambrose is the guy who has stepped forward and challenged Styles—if Tuesday's edition of SmackDown is any indication.

Ambrose getting involved with the James Ellsworth situation, as he probably will do again next week when Ellsworth and Styles clash for the WWE World Championship, is a surefire sign that The Lunatic Fringe is remaining in the world title picture.

Whether he wins it, however, is a delicate matter to handle. Another defeat for Ambrose could potentially leave him looking quite weak following numerous losses to Styles.

But is the champion ready to drop the belt just yet? He's on such a roll that it seems too early to end his reign as WWE world champion.

However, with most of SmackDown's other top talent engaged in other feuds, Ambrose vs. Styles seems certain to run through Survivor Series at the least.

Who wins, however, is a difficult one to gauge.
