WWE Raw: Burning Questions to Address After Oct. 10 Show

Ryan DilbertOct 11, 2016

From Goldberg's impending arrival to the history awaiting Hell in a Cell, Monday's WWE Raw delivered a heavy supply of news-making moments.

A challenge from Paul Heyman will lead to Goldberg appearing on Raw for the first time in 12 years. Sasha Banks and Charlotte are poised to become the first women to ever compete inside Hell in a Cell. The Kevin Owens-Chris Jericho bromance showed signs of dissolving on Monday night, too.

These happenings left the audience flush with questions.

Will the power of nostalgia outweigh WWE fans' cynicism when Goldberg returns? Will Banks and Charlotte thrive inside The Devil's Playground?

And is the duo of Jericho and Owens going to last beyond the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view on Oct. 30?

Raw's storylines created buzz aplenty. Whether that results in triumphs for WWE remains to be seen. Betting on Banks and Charlotte to succeed, though, has proved to be fruitful in the past.

How Will Sasha Banks and Charlotte Fare Inside Hell in a Cell?

It's official—Banks and Charlotte's next Women's Championship match will be contested inside Hell in a Cell.

Banks issued a challenge to The Queen on Monday's Raw, inviting her to tangle inside the steel structure. Raw general manager Mick Foley later confirmed the bout.

Now Banks and Charlotte will clash with immense pressure on their shoulders. They will be the first women to ever compete in a Hell in a Cell match. Fans will expect them to produce something spectacular in The Devil's Playground.

We have yet to see Banks or Charlotte turn up the brutality to the level they will be required to on Oct. 30.

Will they be able to live up to all the hype the clash will receive? Will they go too far to make their mark, hurting each other and shortening their careers in the process?

History says it's not wise to doubt either of these wrestlers. Banks and Charlotte have stepped up at every stage to this point.

NXT offered The Boss the headline slot at TakeOver: Respect in the first women's Iron Man match. She flourished, crafting a Match of the Year candidate.

Banks and Charlotte were a part of WrestleMania's biggest women's match to date earlier this year. They and Becky Lynch stole the show. And when given a shot at main eventing Raw last week, champion and challenger tore down the house.

That's likely what they will do once more, even in an alien environment and even with the weight of history on their backs.

How Will Mick Foley Appease Braun Strowman?

Strowman is tired of feasting on lesser men.

After devouring another enhancement talent last week, he demanded Foley send him stiffer competition. The GM tried to grant his wish. On Monday's Raw, he pitted Strowman against a pair of journeymen at the same time.

The Splash Brothers didn't put up much of a fight. Strowman steamrolled over both men.

The lack of opposition angered the monster. He warned Foley once more that, if he is not tested more, he will wreak havoc on WWE.

Where will Foley go to up the ante? Little-used veterans Big Show and Mark Henry are options. Foley could also book him to face a low-ranked star such as Neville.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful suggested a match where Strowman would take on one opponent after another:

That would be a creative next step. Strowman's frustrations and the beatings that result from them will potentially make an excellent narrative for the big man.

"Powerhouse crushes jobber" is a well-worn tale. The more WWE can toy with the format, the more compelling it will become.

Will Fans Care About Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar?

Lesnar's advocate, Paul Heyman, called out Goldberg, taking fans back in time to when those two human wrecking balls smashed into each other at WrestleMania XX.

He talked of how his client has lost sleep over losing to Goldberg all those years ago. Heyman then urged the former WCW champ to fight Lesnar.

Goldberg soon tweeted that he was headed to Raw next week:

The rumors are true; Lesnar vs. Goldberg is happening. But will this be the superfight WWE is hoping for or a sleepy nostalgia act?

The reaction to Heyman's challenge on Monday's Raw was mixed. Some fans mumbled uneasily. Some began to chant Goldberg's name.

Will Pruett of ProWrestling.net was critical of WWE's decision to shine its spotlight on the past again:

The match will be big. It will benefit from all the hype WWE can muster. Goldberg's absence has to have created some longing for many fans.

But it's not clear if that will add up to a marquee showdown or a bout destined to be as underwhelming as Shane McMahon vs. Undertaker at WrestleMania this year.

How Long Will Jeri-KO Last?

The picture-perfect chemistry between the universal champ and his scarf-loving bestie isn't going to last forever. Friendships don't last in the WWE world.

But it looks as if the split between Jericho and Owens could be here at a moment's notice.

The two buddies bickered on Monday night over whose name should go first when talking about them as a team. They flashed signs of annoyance with each other. Jericho nearly earned a title shot against Owens at Hell in a Cell by way of his match against Seth Rollins on Monday's Raw.

Jericho and Owens tried to play up the possibility of them colliding in the same ring as no big deal, but there was a flicker of dissension when the idea emerged.

Could WWE be fast-tracking the path to Jericho vs. Owens? Y2J doesn't typically stick around for long, as he alternates WWE runs with going on tour with his band, Fozzy.

WWE could be looking to hurry their breakup along to get Jericho in line to face Owens at Survivor Series.

That possibility adds an intriguing wrinkle to Hell in a Cell. Owens' battle with Rollins could be where tension rises between the champ and Jericho. Perhaps Y2J tries to help his pal, only to cost him his title by accident. Perhaps Jericho's jealousy rears its head that night.

Either way, this will remain a key subplot to the Owens-Rollins rivalry until Jeri-KO implodes as expected.
