James Rodriguez Sent Death Threat on Twitter
James Rodriguez's decision to leave the Colombia national team during the international break has caused a lot of backlash on social media, with one fan going so far as to send a death threat to the Real Madrid star.
According to Goal, Rodriguez's mother filed a complaint with the police following a threat on Twitter that was accompanied by a photo of a gun and bullets. The message read: "I am travelling to your home, I am armed, say goodbye to everything you love."
Per AS (h/t Sport), Rodriguez traveled to Colombia even though Real team doctors informed him he was injured and would not be able to play for his country. Colombian team doctors told him the same when he arrived, and he returned to Madrid without playing a minute of football.

That did not sit well with a group that calls itself the "Legion Holk" and has built a reputation for trolling people on social media and launching offensive hashtags. At the time of writing, the account that posted the threat had been suspended.
As trivial as a Twitter threat may seem, it can't be taken lightly given the history of violence in the football world and Colombia in particular.
Colombia's Andres Escobar was shot and killed in Medellin just 10 days after scoring an own goal against the United States that helped eliminate his team from the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
