Gabriel Douglas to Texas Tech: Red Raiders Land 4-Star WR Prospect
Class of 2018 4-star wide receiver Gabriel Douglas announced Wednesday that he has committed to Texas Tech:
Douglas is the fourth-rated wide receiver prospect to come out of his home state of Texas and the No. 22 pass-catcher in the country, according to Scout.
He is also rated as the 134th overall player in the class of 2018.
With one more season of high school ball remaining after 2016, Douglas already has solid size for a receiver who is expected to become an outside threat at Texas Tech. At 6'1 ½", 180 pounds, Douglas put up a sophomore season in 2015 in which he recorded 70 receptions for 883 yards and 11 touchdowns, per Scout:
An effective route-runner with a soft set of hands, Douglas has already impressed 247Sports' EJ Holland, who covers recruiting in Texas:
Yet according to Scout, Texas Tech was the only school that sent an offer to him. He also received interest from Texas and Texas A&M.
For the Red Raiders, though, their strong recruitment of the class of 2018 continued with Douglas' commitment.
Douglas is now the second class of 2018 wide receiver and the second 4-star prospect to join the pass-happy program.
Through its first four games this season, Texas Tech is averaging 547.8 passing yards per game, which ranks first in the nation, per ESPN.com.
Recruiting talented pass-catching prospects is a necessary step to ensure the passing success continues in the future. So Douglas should expect to be busy upon his arrival to Lubbock.
