WWE SmackDown Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from October 4
There is nothing quite as entertaining as a pissed-off Dolph Ziggler, something the WWE Universe found out Tuesday night on SmackDown Live as The Showoff earned the broadcast's "biggest winner" status.
Mocked and humiliated for an entire segment of Miz TV by the intercontinental champion ahead of their clash at Sunday's No Mercy, Ziggler erupted. So furious was he of the mockery made of his career that he withstood a two-on-one beatdown by former Spirit Squad teammates Mikey and Kenny and stood tall to close out the segment.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Typically a charismatic and arrogant babyface quite in tune with how great he really is, Ziggler has been visibly shaken over the last month or so. The result has been a much more interesting and dynamic character than fans have seen from the two-time world champion in years. So much so that as No Mercy approaches, his showdown with The Miz, in which his career is at stake, feels like the most meaningful bout of the entire show.
It is a testament to Ziggler, Miz and the SmackDown creative team that a seemingly innocent midcard feud has taken on the life it has, usurping the prestige and importance of the WWE World Championship match and becoming the most anticipated contest of the No Mercy lineup.
Some 11 years after he first set foot in a WWE ring as Nick Nemeth, generic caddie to the flawed Kerwin White character, Ziggler has managed to drum up more interest in his persona by showing more real emotion than he ever has before.
On Tuesday night, he showed off the frustration and anger that has been boiling inside him. Come Sunday, will that give way to the joy of victory or the sadness of a career prematurely ended by wrestling's finest heel?
Only time will tell.
Winner: Dean Ambrose
Speaking of performers whose characters have become reinvigorated in recent months...
Dean Ambrose's Lunatic Fringe persona had been neutered over the last year, a caricature of the antihero fans so desperately wanted him to be. As those fans witnessed Tuesday night, he has rediscovered his edge and is closer to the tweener character he was born to play than ever before.
This is a new Ambrose, a cocky and confident competitor who targets both heels and babyfaces alike, unafraid of the reaction it may generate from fans. He verbally skewered John Cena and left AJ Styles lying following Dirty Deeds on Tuesday night, standing tall with the WWE World Championship to close out the show.
No longer handcuffed by the restrictions that come along with being the top babyface champion, he is free to be himself, an edgier and more compelling character who will ultimately benefit SmackDown Live in the long run.
Losers: The Hype Bros and The Vaudevillains
It was never more apparent than Tuesday night just how lost in the shuffle The Hype Bros and The Vaudevillains are.
They wrestled a meaningless match that saw Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley pick up a win that will not advance them any further in the rankings than they already are, if only because the logjam of teams at the top of the division will prevent it.
American Alpha, The Usos and Heath Slater and Rhyno are all ahead of them in the pecking order. Even The Ascension earned television time a week earlier. The Hype Bros and The Vaudevillains feel too much like enhancement acts at this point to take them seriously. That they were thrown onto the show as little more than time-filler does not diminish that perception.
Perhaps Ryder and Rawley will break out and become top contenders in the weeks to come. If that happens, good for them. If not, the meaningless nature of their match with Aiden English and Simon Gotch on Tuesday night will be enhanced exponentially.
Winner: The Miz

When the story of 2016 is written, much attention will be paid to AJ Styles and his monumental year. Right after that, though, should be the tale of Miz's renaissance.
The purest heel in pro wrestling, he has exploded back into relevance thanks to a relentless desire to be booed and an in-ring game better than it has ever been.
His work with Ziggler to this point has been nothing short of phenomenal.
The perfect heel to Ziggler's likable babyface, he has taken great joy in the fact that he may very well end The Showoff's career Sunday at No Mercy. The venom he spewed in the direction of the two-time champion was pure microphone gold Tuesday night, as was his unabashed mockery of the celebrated competitor.
Win or lose, Miz can rest assured that he has not only crafted a brilliant storyline alongside Ziggler but has also wrapped up the Comeback Wrestler of the Year award from every single publication and website known to the sport.
