Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Alvaro Morata and Marco Verratti

Gianni VerschuerenOct 2, 2016

Juventus have opened the door to a reunion with Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, while Los Blancos are reportedly among a host of clubs interested in the services of Paris Saint-Germain star Marco Verratti.

Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta spoke to Premium Sport (h/t Calciomercato's Lorenzo Bettoni) about some of the transfer plans the Bianconeri will have in January, and he briefly touched on the rumours Morata could be on his way out of Real.

Marotta acknowledged the idea was appealing, and the great relationship between Morata and the club could help, saying: “There is nothing concrete, but it is a suggestive possibility in footballing terms. We are on very good terms with him and he settled in very well in Turin. Many clubs want to sign him.”

Morata spent two years in Turin before Real Madrid activated a buy-back clause in his contract this summer, bringing him back to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. The Spain international has played second fiddle to Karim Benzema since the Frenchman's return to the squad, however, opening the door to new transfer speculation.

According to the Sun's Warren Haughton, both Chelsea and Arsenal are keeping track of the 23-year-old, but Juventus would naturally have the inside track should the Bianconeri also get involved.

Morata and Juventus parted on good terms, and he is still a favourite of the fans due to the key role he played during the 2014-15 UEFA Champions League. The striker didn't score a bunch of goals in Italy, but the ones he did score were usually pivotal, per Squawka Football:

Here's a look at some of his Juventus highlights:

The Bianconeri addressed their attacking concerns by signing Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli during the summer, and Pipita has enjoyed a great start in Turin, scoring six goals in seven Serie A matches.

He's expected to start the majority of the club's matches alongside Paulo Dybala, and with Mario Mandzukic and Marko Pjaca also available, Juventus have no real need for another forward. Should Real move Morata, he would likely be expensive, and without a real need for another striker, Juventus would be an unlikely destination.

Add to that Real's impending transfer ban, and a deal becomes even less likely. Los Blancos wouldn't be able to bring in a replacement, and with limited depth at the striker position, Morata is a player manager Zinedine Zidane simply has to keep hold of.

Meanwhile, Angelo Taglieri and Jean-Luca Mascaro of Calciomercato report Real are among the many clubs interested in Verratti, whose future with PSG has become murky after his agent Donato Di Campli told reporters the Italian won't stay in France forever.

Di Campli said his client will need “different motivations,” prompting a whole host of transfer rumours. The likes of Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United were all linked with the midfielder, as were Los Blancos.

Per the report, the transfer ban complicates matters, but the 23-year-old could be a perfect replacement for Toni Kroos, who has also been the subject of transfer rumours.

Here's a look at some of Verratti's highlights:

Out of all the potential destinations, Real are arguably the least likely club to land the Italy international. With Kroos playing as well as ever, Los Blancos don't need another controlling midfielder, and Verratti won't join the club to be a rotational piece, especially if the transfer ban means he'd have to spend some time in the stands first.
