Judge Orders Rams to Refund PSL Fees, Offer Season Tickets to St. Louis Fans

Adam WellsSep 22, 2016

The Los Angeles Rams are still feeling the effects of their move, based on a federal judge's ruling involving about 46,000 personal seat licenses.

According to Nathan Fenno of the Los Angeles TimesUnited States District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr. ruled that some fans in St. Louis who purchased personal seat licenses from the Rams must receive a refund for their deposits or have the opportunity to purchase season tickets for games in Los Angeles.

Per Fenno's report, this originally came about when three separate lawsuits were filed after NFL owners voted to approve the Rams' move to Los Angeles. Those lawsuits were later consolidated into one big case.

Per Fenno, Limbaugh said in his decision that contracts with FANS, Inc., were terminated as a result of the Rams' move to Los Angeles, and the franchise was ordered to refund the deposits.

"The court cannot fully grant judgment on the pleadings because the issue of damages will be wholly tied to what constitutes a 'deposit' under the contract," Limbaugh's decision said. "Damages will be determined at a later date."

Fenno added that contracts for personal seat licenses with the Rams "aren’t contingent on the team playing in St. Louis and remain in effect until 2025," but Limbaugh described the difference in language on the contracts as "inexplicable."

The Rams moved back to Los Angeles in January, after spending the previous 21 years in St. Louis. The franchise's return to the West Coast was met with great enthusiasm, as 24,000 people bought out the allotted 70,000 season tickets before individual game tickets were made available.
