Sheamus and Cesaro Morphing into the New Faces of WWE Raw's Tag Team Division
Sheamus and Cesaro have no business being a tag team.
WWE fans knew that when Mick Foley paired the two adversaries together. The Raw general manager used the oldest trick in the company's book by forcing enemies to align, but he believed they could be WWE's next great duo.
Fans shook their heads then, and they're likely still doing it. But maybe they're wrong.

Maybe WWE is not just winging it, as is often the case. Maybe this time, there's a definite plan of action. While crowds are enjoying cheering Cesaro and booing Sheamus as the two attempt to coexist, WWE could be planning to crown new leaders in the tag team division.
How did it come to this?
The New Day is still over. Big E, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston are still killing it every week on WWE programming. Fans continue to cheer, they continue to chant and they love everything the trio does. The New Day has defied the odds and succeeded where other teams have failed in the past, and the three have never looked better.
They're at the top, and they deserve to be.
But the question of where they go from here is being asked. They've beaten every combo that's been put in front of them, and they've come out on top every time they supposedly had no chance to win. They're the best team in the company, and they've proved themselves time and time again.
All of that sounds suspiciously like The Shield.
Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns were at the tops of their games when they defeated Evolution at Payback in 2014. They had what many considered to be the best night of their run as a team, and fans could not get enough of them.
Those same fans recoiled in shock the next night when Rollins betrayed his brothers.
The Shield had another six months together, possibly even another year. It was in its prime as a faction, and that's why WWE had to split it up. There was just no goal left to achieve and no mountain left to climb.
Perhaps this is where The New Day is now.
If so, then Cesaro and Sheamus are coming along at exactly the right time. The good part about that is they're an established and experienced duo. With The New Day out as the tag division's top guys, the reins would be in capable hands.
They may not look like a team, but Sheamus and Cesaro could make it work.
The drama here has everything to do with the problems between the two. Cesaro is the Superstar who just can't catch a break despite his abundance of talent, and that has put him in the audience's favor. People love him because he is so good but so underappreciated.
Cesaro is a potential world champion, but WWE won't move on him.
Sheamus is the guy who fans love to hate. He's been a world champion, and he's had more than one opportunity at success. Fans respect what he can do in the ring, but it's just too much fun to boo him out of the building.
He could have turned babyface the moment Foley paired him with Cesaro, but that would have been too easy. He has to work for everything he has in this angle.
That means the company is investing in them as a tag team. The heat between the two is the story, and it has been from the time they started together. But that heat will eventually lead to mutual respect, which will eventually lead to cooperation.
While all of this is happening, they will become the new Raw tag team champions. There's just too much story to be written, and the players involved are too good to not tell it.
The New Day does not have to meet its demise the way The Shield did. The end could be an amicable one—if it even needs to end at all. Perhaps Woods and Kingston will continue to tag together while Big E goes on a major singles run.
Perhaps Big E could challenge Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship.
The fact is that, no matter what happens with The New Day, each man has done impressively well with the gimmick. WWE should be ready and willing to reward their efforts, as it did with The Shield. This means that Cesaro and Sheamus have a great opportunity to take over and make a statement in the tag team division.
When that happens, The Club will be waiting.
Cesaro and Sheamus would match up incredibly well with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, and a feud between the two teams would be great for WWE. Enzo Amore and Big Cass would also give Cesaro and Sheamus all they could handle in a title match, and both feuds would keep the tag division rolling along nicely.
There are options here, and with The New Day moving on to bigger things, the tag team titles would still be relevant. WWE will move on eventually, and there's no better team to take over than Sheamus and Cesaro.
