Kevin Durant Was Impressed by Tom Brady During Celtics' Free-Agency Pitch
More than one NBA team brought their big guns to the Kevin Durant free-agency party, held in the Hamptons in early July.
The Golden State Warriors brought NBA MVP Stephen Curry and his fellow All-Stars, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
The Boston Celtics, on the other hand, brought the one and only Tom Brady.
The New England Patriots quarterback might not be a basketball player, but he is a proven winner, and that packs some power.
Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck told Boston's 98.5 The Sports Hub (via Chris Forsberg of ESPN.com) that Brady led the Boston contingent into the Hamptons house. He called Brady's presence "very effective" and "very compelling."
It certainly sounds like Durant was impressed. He told reporters Monday, per Forsberg:
"I was ready to just say, "OK, let's go." Just seeing someone so successful at his craft. He's a great ambassador for the game of football and the city of Boston. It's great to be in the presence of such greatness. But at the same time, I knew I couldn't let that distract me.
"
Durant also said he liked the Celtics head coach Brad Stevens, and the team's overall style of play.
The Warriors ultimately won the Durant sweepstakes, but it sounds like the Celtics at least gave him something to think about.
