Ian Clark, Warriors Agree to New Contract: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction

Adam WellsJul 8, 2016

Ian Clark's tenure with the Golden State Warriors will continue after the veteran guard signed a new deal with the Western Conference champions.

The Warriors announced Clark's re-signing Friday, though they did not disclose the terms of the deal. Shams Charania of The Vertical reported it's a one-year guaranteed contract.

The 25-year-old was a solid bench player for the Warriors last season. He averaged 3.6 points and one rebound per contest in 66 games.

Clark first came to prominence at the NBA Summer League in 2013. He went undrafted out of Belmont before playing with the Warriors and Miami Heat during the summer league, winning MVP honors with the Warriors after scoring 33 points in the title game.

His impressive debut led to a two-year contract with the Utah Jazz, though he struggled to catch on with the team as a rookie and went back and forth between Utah and the NBA Development League.

After being waived by the Jazz, Clark joined the Denver Nuggets in 2014-15. He then signed with the Warriors in September and scored a career-high 21 points in a game against the Dallas Mavericks on Dec. 30.

The Warriors don't have much cap space to work with thanks to the addition of Kevin Durant, but they were able to retain Clark, who already knows head coach Steve Kerr's system.

Keeping Clark is hardly the biggest news story for the Warriors this summer, but he should serve as the kind of bench option they need to make it through an 82-game season without exhausting their main core of Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala.
