Ranking the 10 Best Finishing Moves in WWE Today
Pro wrestlers use a lot of things to differentiate themselves from one another, and one of those is their finishing maneuvers.
Having a good finisher is important, and many Superstars have invented new moves over the years to help them stand out.
Most people's signature move falls into one of four categories: slam, strike, suplex and submission. It's just a coincidence that each category starts with an S.
We have seen a lot of ridiculous moves over the years, and those who use a completely unrealistic finisher usually find themselves at the back of the line.
When it comes to today's roster, most of the Superstars use moves that look good and can be performed on the majority of their opponents without any problems.
This slideshow will rank the 10 best finishers in WWE today. We will feature only individual moves, so don't get upset when you don't see The Dudley Boyz' 3D on the list.
10. Helluva Kick
1 of 10When it comes to taking out an opponent, few things are as effective as a running kick to the face.
Sami Zayn has a lot of signature moves, but when he wants to finish someone off, he always goes back to the Helluva Kick.
The only downside to this move is how similar it is to a regular big boot, something many wrestlers perform on a regular basis.
The biggest difference is Zayn does it while his opponent is in the corner instead of the middle of the ring, but who cares? It's still a great finisher.
It's not the flashiest move, but it gets the job done and looks realistic, especially when he is facing someone who is willing to sell it properly.
9. The Spear
2 of 10When discussing finishing moves, no list would be complete without The Spear, or in the case of Rhyno, The Gore.
First popularized by Bill Goldberg in WCW, many Superstars have adopted The Spear as their own, including Edge, Batista, Rhyno and, more recently, Roman Reigns.
Even women such as Kaitlyn and Charlotte have used the move to devastating effect. It's a high-impact takedown that looks great if done properly.
8. Powerbomb Variations
3 of 10The powerbomb has been used by many Superstars over the years, and some have made slight changes to the move to make it their own.
Kevin Owens has the Pop-up Powerbomb. Apollo Crews uses a spinning sit-out powerbomb, and Rollins has the running corner powerbomb.
Legends such as Kevin Nash, The Undertaker, Psycho Sid and Batista have all made great use of the powerbomb to win world championships.
It's a dangerous move to perform if done improperly, and WCW even went as far as to ban the maneuver for a short time due to its brutality.
7. Tombstone Piledriver
4 of 10The standard piledriver has been banned by WWE after several Superstars were injured while having the move performed on them, so the last remaining version you will see in a WWE ring is The Undertaker's Tombstone Piledriver.
The reason WWE still allows this variation is because it can be performed with less risk due to the fact that Taker lands on his knees instead of his backside, which allows more room between his opponent's head and the mat.
Only a few people have ever kicked out of the Tombstone, making it one of the most effective finishers of all time. When Kane and The Undertaker eventually retire, it's hard to imagine management will allow anyone else to perform the move, so we should enjoy it while we still can.
6. The Phenomenal Forearm
5 of 10A springboard forearm to the face doesn't sound like it would be anything special, but when AJ Styles does it, the move looks amazing.
The main reason it looks so good is because Styles makes it look real. There's no way to fake flying through the air and slamming your forearm into someone's face.
He also has The Styles Clash, but that move takes too long to set up and doesn't always look good, but The Phenomenal Forearm always looks incredible.
5. F-5
6 of 10Brock Lesnar is one of the most dominant forces to ever step foot in the ring, and the F-5 has helped him defeat some of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
If another wrestler used this move, it wouldn't be too impressive, but when Lesnar propels his opponent into the air and drops him on the mat, it looks awesome.
It's especially spectacular when he uses the move on giants such as Kane and Big Show while making it look easy, but using it to break The Undertaker's undefeated WrestleMania streak is what made it iconic.
Whenever Lesnar decides to hang up his boots for good, it's hard to imagine anyone else adopting the move as his own.
4. The Sharpshooter
7 of 10Bret Hart made The Sharpshooter famous, but many Superstars have used it over the years, including his brother, Owen.
The Rock used it many times, albeit poorly executed. Sting renamed it the Scorpion Deathlock, and many others have used it occasionally over the years.
Three Superstars use The Sharpshooter right now. Tyson Kidd, Natalya and Cesaro have all made opponents tap out to the iconic hold, and we will likely see more people utilize it in the future.
When someone uses this submission, it brings back great memories of watching Hart make Shawn Michaels, Mr. Perfect and Owen Hart tap out.
One moment that nobody will forget is watching a bloody Steve Austin refuse to submit to the hold during a match with Hart. Austin passed out in the process, effectively turning himself into a babyface and Hart into a heel.
3. Cross Armbreaker
8 of 10Of all the submission holds used by WWE Superstars, none of them has as much real-world credibility as Alberto Del Rio's Cross Armbreaker.
It's one of the most basic armbars a person can use, but it's also one of the most effective because it is hard to escape from when it is applied properly.
If Del Rio wanted to, he could break the arm of anyone he puts in the hold, and that is what makes it such a great finisher.
He has found many creative ways to apply the Cross Armbreaker over the years, and he has made just about everyone in the company tap out at one point or another.
2. The RKO
9 of 10Diamond Dallas Page made the Diamond Cutter famous, but Randy Orton took the move to a whole new level and renamed it The RKO.
During his 14 years on the main roster, we have seen Orton hit this move from every angle in every possible way, making it one of the most versatile finishers in the history of wrestling.
Who could forget Orton hitting it on Evan Bourne in the middle of a shooting star press? What about the time he reversed a chokeslam from The Undertaker into an RKO?
DDP may have made the move popular, but nobody does it better than The Viper.
1. The Red Arrow
10 of 10Many Superstars can perform aerial maneuvers with great ease, but when it comes to defying gravity, nobody comes close to Adrian Neville.
The Red Arrow is a combination of a corkscrew splash and a shooting star press, and every time he nails his opponent with it, the fans go nuts.
It's one of those moves that look great from any angle, but more importantly, it's one that few wrestlers can copy.
It might not be the most logical thing in the world to put his body at risk with such a dangerous move, but he makes it look easy.
What do you think is the greatest finisher in WWE today?
