Cavaliers Parade 2016: Twitter Reaction, Photos, Videos and More

Timothy RappJun 22, 2016

LeBron James finally brought a title to the city of Cleveland, snapping a 52-year drought by leading the Cavaliers to victory over the Golden State Warriors in Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Sunday. The fans and the organization celebrated during a parade through Cleveland on Wednesday.

James brought hope for the future, too, indicating he wasn't planning on leaving the team during free agency this summer.

"I love it here in Cleveland. I have no intentions of leaving," he told ESPN.com's Dave McMenamin during the parade. "There are some technicalities to take care of I'll leave up to my agent. That's right from the horse's mouth."

He added, "This is the happiest time in my life right now," per Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com.

On a day of celebrations, Cavs fans may be rejoicing the most after hearing that news.

But while Cleveland's future remains in good hands, it was a day to celebrate the past. And James led the proceedings, via the NBA:

The Cavaliers shared a separate image of James as the team's adoring fans greeted him:

Indeed, the city of Cleveland was out in full force, as SportsCenter on Twitter shared:

According to the team, an estimated 1.3 million fans showed up for the parade, which stretched on for over five hours. Since the city didn't put up barricades, per Yahoo Sports' Dan Devine, fans flooded onto the route and slowed down the parade.

Nobody seemed to mind much, however, as the city enjoyed a party that was 52 years in the making. Certainly, the entire Cavaliers team soaked up the moment.

There was the shirtless J.R. Smith, per Sean Gentille of the Sporting News:

There was Iman Shumpert in a Ferrari:

And then there was Kevin Love:

Several of the Cavaliers players took a moment as the parade commenced to film videos for the NBA on Twitter.

King James was one of them:

Tristan Thompson also got in on the act:

Meanwhile, amid the hype that James brought a title to Cleveland, it may be easy to forget Kyrie Irving was spectacular during the NBA Finals, averaging 27.1 points and 3.9 assists per game.

His 41 points in Game 5 were crucial for the Cavs, though his game-winning three-pointer in Game 7 was his most memorable moment.

Cavs fans didn't take him for granted after Cleveland won the title, however, and Irving took a moment to greet them along the parade route during the proceedings, via NBA TV:

And then there was Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, who blasted LeBron James when he left for the Miami Heat but welcomed him back to Cleveland two years ago. He was emotional as he spoke to Fox Sports Ohio on the parade route:

He also took a moment at the podium to praise James, via NBA TV:

And Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue, in turn, praised the fans:

The players also took to the podium to describe their title-winning season.

Irving spoke of the remarkable 2015-16 campaign:

And then James himself addressed the crowd:

The Cavs are well-positioned to return to the NBA Finals and win another title next season too.

James looks set to return, and Irving established himself as an elite option to pair with him during these playoffs. Love has never seemed to fit naturally in Cleveland, though it didn't keep the team from winning a title. The Cavs could dangle Love as trade bait to find a more natural piece to complement James and Irving.

Thompson leads a strong supporting cast that also includes Smith—though he is an unrestricted free agent—and Shumpert. So the core of the team should be intact, though the Cavaliers will likely start the 2016-17 with a slightly different look.

Still, with James and Irving leading the way and Lue at the helm, the Cavs will be a force to be reckoned with next year as well. And who knows? After splitting the NBA Finals the past two years, maybe the Cavaliers and Warriors will give fans the rubber match a year from now.

What NBA fan wouldn't want to see that?
