Draymond Green Suspended: Twitter Reacts to NBA's Decision
The Golden State Warriors will be without forward Draymond Green for Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday evening after the NBA retroactively assessed him a flagrant-1 foul for his role in an altercation with LeBron James during the fourth quarter of Game 4.
According to Bleacher Report's Howard Beck, the NBA's official statement cited Green's accumulation of flagrant foul points as the official reason for his one-game ban:
ESPN's Rachel Nichols provided a snapshot of the moment that cost Green the chance to play in the potential closeout game:
Once the news became official, Twitter erupted with reaction to the potential series-shifting decision by the league office.
The Oklahoman's Anthony Slater referenced Green's kick to the groin of Oklahoma City Thunder center Steven Adams—which was upgraded to a flagrant-2 but did not result in a suspension—when the punishment was handed down:
ESPN's Stephen A. Smith was among those who failed to see eye-to-eye with the NBA:
Facebook account Usapang Basketbol (h/t Sports Talk Joe) posted photographic evidence that ran counter to Smith's argument:
"Y'all acting like Draymond didn't have this coming lmfao. Pathetic. pic.twitter.com/Ri4fDL43yX

Smith's colleague, Dan Le Batard, noted Green's suspension could be a source of irony if the Warriors wind up clinching the title Monday night:
Fox Sports' Dieter Kurtenbach explained Green may have to fork over some cash if he hopes to celebrate with his teammates:
But no tweet was more noteworthy than one provided by Stephen Curry's wife, Ayesha.
After a report from ESPN.com's Dave McMenamin (via ESPN.com's Brian Windhorst) cited a source who said James got upset when Green called him a "b---h," Klay Thompson offered up his take Sunday.
"I'm surprised some guys take it so personal," he said, per Nichols. It's a man's league. I guess his feelings got hurt."
James responded and said, "It's so hard to take the high road," according to a tweet from ESPN's Mark Jones. "I've been doing it for 13 yrs but I'm gonna take it again."
Ayesha, though, had a quick reply handy:
And as always, the reaction wouldn't have been complete without everyone's favorite meme making an appearance:
Here's a look at the best of the rest:
While the Warriors figured to carry momentum into Game 5 following a statement win in Game 4 that pushed the Cleveland Cavaliers to the brink of elimination, the defending champions will need to find ways to compensate for the combo forward's absence.
And that won't be easy.
According to Bleacher Report's Sean Highkin, the Warriors have outscored Cleveland by 13.6 points per 100 possessions in the NBA Finals with Green on the floor. But when he's been on the bench, Golden State has been outscored by 9.6 points per 100 possessions.
Additionally, the Warriors lineup featuring Green at center has posted a net rating of plus-14.1 points per 100 possessions in 29 minutes through four Finals showdowns against the Cavaliers.
Golden State has the depth and versatile personnel necessary to overcome the suspension, but the pressure will be on the likes of Andre Iguodala, Harrison Barnes and the rest of the team's supplementary contributors to ease the burden on Curry and Thompson with another ring in sight.
