Von Miller Attends Broncos Ring Ceremony Amid Contract Dispute

Danny WebsterJun 12, 2016

Von Miller ended up being in attendance when the Denver Broncos receive their Super Bowl rings on Sunday.

Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com had reported the MVP of Super Bowl 50 would join his teammates and coaches during the Broncos' ring ceremony Sunday despite ongoing contract negotiations.

Teammate Chris Harris Jr. would share a Instagram photo that included Miller:

Miller, whom the team franchise-tagged on March 1, received a six-year offer worth $114.5 million Thursday but turned it down, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal would have made Miller the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL at nearly $19.1 million per year, with $38.5 million guaranteed in the first two years.

However, according to Legwold, the structure of guaranteed money within the first two years of the contract is the lingering issue.

The deadline for teams to strike long-term deals with franchise-tagged players is July 15. If nothing comes to fruition by then, the only offer left on the table for Miller would be the $14.129 million one-year tender.

Drama has been brewing between the Broncos and Miller over the course of the weekend. Pass-rusher DeMarcus Ware posted a photo on Instagram of himself, Miller, head coach Gary Kubiak, recently retired quarterback Peyton Manning and general manager John Elway during the Broncos' visit to the White House (via ESPN.com).

But when Miller reposted the photo to his account, he cropped out Elway—apparently as a subtle hint at what he thinks of the direction of the contract negotiations.

As the MVP of Denver's third Super Bowl victory in franchise history, it was vital for Miller to attend the event regardless of his feelings toward Elway and the front office. He's the superstar and is doing the right thing by celebrating with his teammates.

For at least one night, both sides put the issue to rest.
