Edinson Cavani Reportedly Agrees to Contract Extension with PSG
A Paris Saint-Germain exit appeared to be looming for Edinson Cavani after the striker admitted he was flattered by interest from Atletico Madrid.
However, the Uruguay international reportedly will remain with the French club until 2020 after agreeing to a two-year contract extension with a revised salary "set to be €8m a year with €2m worth of bonuses," according to Sky Italia (via Get French Football News).
The forward previously spoke in a press conference on June 1, where he addressed speculation of Atleti's interest in his services, per Spanish daily Sport:

"They’re a competitive team that have demonstrated an interest in me and that gives me a lot of joy, because it’s nice when teams show an interest.

But today my reality is that I am a PSG player and I have to respect that club until the final time I put on the shirt.

The 29-year-old was recently eliminated from the 2016 Copa America campaign with Uruguay, but rumours were rife as to where the former Napoli striker would be plying his trade as he prepared for the tournament.
PSG are desperate to replace the presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in attack, so it makes sense for PSG to have Cavani move into that central position.
On top of that, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi also suggested Cavani is the natural Ibrahimovic replacement, per Nigerian broadcaster Deji Kofi Faremi:
Since moving to Paris in 2013, Cavani has been relegated largely to a wide position under manager Laurent Blanc, only ever receiving extended runs up front when Ibrahimovic was sidelined by injury.
Italian outlet Calciomercato recently reported the forward would renew his contract with PSG, and the player's agent, Claudio Anellucci, told Radio Crc (h/t Sun's Anthony Chapman) there was no chance Cavani would leave the French titans.
He said: “I do not think that it is at all possible for [Cavani] to quit PSG. After the departure of Ibrahimovic, PSG want to keep their existing squad and reinforce in order to win the Champions League. PSG cannot lose two strikers.”
