The turning point in the match was when Corbin delivered a low blow to Ziggler, via WWE:
Ringside Xcess noted the match was a no DQ match likely for one reason alone:
Corbin made his WWE main roster debut in surprising fashion at WrestleMania 32 in April by winning the third annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. He then made his presence felt the following night on Raw with a vicious attack of Ziggler.
The Superstars traded the upper hand leading up to Payback before the Showoff picked up a somewhat shocking victory over the Lone Wolf.
Corbin got a chance to even the score on Raw, and he did precisely that by beating Ziggler, which set the stage for Sunday's rubber match.
After he finally picked up a win over Ziggler on Raw, Corbin entered Extreme Rules with a great deal of momentum and confidence on his side:
Although there wasn't a ton of buildup surrounding the feud in the weeks leading up to the pay-per-view, Corbin and Ziggler were given a platform to showcase their abilities.
While the fact that their match took place on the Kickoff Show again could be construed as a negative, it ensured that they received some time to work a solid match with the No DQ stipulation.
Corbin was almost certainly paired with Ziggler in an effort to get the most out of him from an in-ring perspective, and while the former NFL offensive lineman still has a long way to go in that regard, performing alongside Ziggler may prove to be invaluable.
The prevailing thought entering the feud was that Ziggler would put Corbin over and do everything possible to make the 31-year-old look strong.
Since the veteran former two-time world champion has always been generous on that front and wasn't involved in any type of substantial storyline entering the angle, that notion made sense.
Ziggler did strike the first blow in the feud, but after losing consecutive matches to Corbin, he has done his job in terms of elevating the up-and-comer.
Corbin now figures to move slightly up the card, potentially into a program involving a midcard title, while things are far less certain for Ziggler.
The Showoff is undoubtedly deserving of a higher-profile spot, but Sunday's result suggests there aren't big plans in store for him.
Provided Corbin goes on to make a big impact and becomes the major heel WWE hopes, however, Ziggler's contributions will prove to be a major catalyst.
