RCB have been quite fantastic with the bat in the 2016 IPL, but their bowlers' inability to back that up has seen them lose five of their eight matches so far to slip to seventh in the standings.
It was a similar story for Bangalore's bowling unit in their defeat of RPS on Saturday as the Pune outfit batted first and were allowed to post a total of 191.
Fortunately for RCB, on that occasion, it was not a total out of reach of their superlative batting lineup, which includes the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Shane Watson.
Kohli was on hand to score a stunning century against RPS—his second of the tournament so far—as RCB won with three balls remaining.
The Indian captain's form is such that he could propel RCB to the playoffs on his own—his T20 record in 2016 is staggering, per former Indian opener Aakash Chopra:
And RCB will need him again if they are to beat KXIP, as their bowling still looks poor.
Given Kohli's brilliant individual form and with Kings XI the worst side in the competition thus far, 7-2 for the opener to be the game's top-scoring batsman looks a decent price.
The 8-13 on offer for Bangalore to win in Mohali, though, looks very short given that they have been so unbearably inconsistent this year.
Furthermore, Kings XI must be massively buoyed following their shock win over Delhi, which came courtesy of a heartening all-round team performance.
Kings XI's poor form with the bat looked to be improving against the Daredevils as they posted their highest score of the tournament so far with a total of 181.
Big-hitting Glenn Maxwell failed again, but Marcus Stoinis and Wriddhiman Saha both hit half centuries, and skipper Murali Vijay chipped in with a valuable 16-ball 25 at the top of the order.
In defending their total, Mohit Sharma, Sandeep Sharma and Axar Patel all looked decent again with the ball, while Stoinis chipped in with three wickets after his heroics with the bat.
If Kings XI can produce another decent batting display—and they certainly could do against RCB's attack—then they have the bowling strength to back that up and beat RCB to move off the bottom of the table.
At 13-10 to win, Kings XI may well be worth a punt, even if Kohli can find yet more runs—he has scored well in a number of losing causes this year, per Broken Cricket:
RCB's side is packed with batting quality, but KXIP look to have better all-round strength, which should give them the edge on Monday.
