Glenn Gronkowski to Bills: Latest Contract Details, Comments, Reaction

Adam WellsApr 30, 2016

Perhaps trying to play mind games with the New England Patriots, the Buffalo Bills signed fullback Glenn Gronkowski as an undrafted free agent Saturday.

Jerry Sullivan of the Buffalo News reported the deal. Baby Gronk tweeted out his excitement after finding a home in the NFL:

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reported the deal includes a $15,000 signing bonus.

The youngest brother of Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski played fullback for the Kansas State Wildcats. He appeared in a career-high nine games last season and did a little bit of everything with 11 carries and five receptions out of the backfield.

New England's All-Pro tight end had some fun with his brother on Twitter after the deal with Buffalo was announced:

Buffalo News Sports provided a pic of the Gronkowski family celebrating:

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe put a positive spin on Glenn Gronkowski's fall out of the NFL draft:

Even though it's always a thrill for players to hear their names called on draft day, there are benefits to being an undrafted free agent and choosing your destination. Gronkowski is from Buffalo and knows the Bills wellboth from living in the city and grilling his brother for information.

Buffalo fans hoping for the same kind of entertainment Rob provides in New England likely will be disappointed, though, per Nick Veronica of the Buffalo News:

Bills head coach Rex Ryan is entertaining enough in front of a microphone for the entire franchise. Gronkowski can instead focus on doing all he can to make Buffalo's roster in training camp.

The situation he will enter is ideal. Ryan loves to utilize a power-running style, and offensive coordinator Greg Roman has always used fullbacks, dating back to his time with the San Francisco 49ers

There's nothing for the Bills to lose in this scenario, as they got a player who could potentially make an impact on their roster. Gronkowski will get a chance to prove himself in Buffalo or build tape for other NFL teams if he doesn't make the Bills roster.
