WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from April 13

Erik BeastonApr 14, 2016

The King of Strong Style, Shinsuke Nakamura, rolled into this week's episode of NXT and once again left an indelible mark on the audience while simultaneously beating "The Perfect 10" Tye Dillinger in impressive fashion.

The sheer presence of Nakamura alone generates excitement, and his charisma captivates fans. Between the ropes, he is as fun-loving as any other Superstar on the WWE roster but, at the same time, is a tenacious and ferocious competitor. His strikes are unmatched in their punishing effect, and everything else he does looks like it hurts, which adds to his credibility.

Most importantly, NXT has treated Nakamura like a star.

His arrival at TakeOver generated a thunderous ovation, even from those likely unfamiliar with his work in Japan. Why? Because the brand did a phenomenal job of hyping him up before he ever set foot through the curtain. Media pundits touted him as a major acquisition, and, combining every element mentioned previously, he has paid off that hype in grand fashion.

Nakamura was Wednesday's biggest winner, but not its only one. That does not even take into account the one big loser from this week's broadcast.

Winner: Alexa Bliss

The once glittery, sparkly Alexa Bliss has abandoned every element of her old persona and has developed into a gloriously evil villainess—one with distinct attitude and in-ring swagger that any number of Superstars elsewhere on the card would give anything to have.

Add to that the facial expressions, which were on full display Wednesday night, and you have a woman hitting her stride as an in-ring performer.

Her match with Tessa Blanchard may have been a glorified squash, but it was a wonderful showcase of the young second-generation star, unsigned by WWE, and Bliss' intensity inside the squared circle.

With another babyface champion at the top of the women's division, Bliss has more than earned an opportunity to enjoy an expanded feud over the top prize for female competitors in NXT. Whether she can jump over Eva Marie and Nia Jax, who appear higher on the proverbial totem pole than her, is the question that will haunt Bliss until she actually manages to do so.

As it stands now, she is a winner from Wednesday night's broadcast on the strength of her performance but could wind up a loser in the long run if she is left directionless despite it.

Loser: Austin Aries

The former Ring of Honor and TNA world champion turned in another solid in-ring performance Wednesday night as he battled Angelo Dawkins, but the fans have been hesitant to cheer him in the same way they have Samoa Joe, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and Shinsuke Nakamura. A celebrated independent star whose resume is as sparkling as any, he is also one of the most respected wrestlers in the industry.

So why is he having such a difficult time getting fans behind him?

Even at TakeOver: Dallas, in what was his first televised match for NXT, fans were relatively quiet and even took to cheering his opponent, Baron Corbin, at times. It is mind-boggling, until one remembers just how long he wallowed in mediocrity and irrelevancy in TNA.

He fell off the face of the earth when TNA was stuck jumping from network to network, struggling to save its brand.

Then, when he finally did resurface in NXT, there was little follow-up on his first appearance. Thus, fans never had the opportunity to properly get behind him before he was thrown into a match with Corbin.

He needs some help from management. He needs a hot feud that can reinvigorate his career and give fans a reason to get behind him, beyond the fact that he is "Austin Aries, indy star."

Winners: Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano

The celebrated stars of the independent circuit, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa returned to NXT Wednesday night and wasted little time establishing themselves as top contenders to American Alpha's tag team titles with a decisive win over former champions The Vaudevillains.

Considering the fact that Simon Gotch and Aiden English have made their Raw and SmackDown debuts already—and are favorites to win the main roster's No. 1 contender tag tournament—Gargano and Ciampa's win was even more impressive.

The two wrestlers have been remarkable, both in tag action and in singles competition, making them flexible at a time when NXT is forced to rebuild following an exodus of stars to the big show.

Gargano and Ciampa are stars in the making, and whether that comes in the tag division or as credible challengers for the NXT Championship later on down the road, big things await Johnny Wrestling and The Sicilian Psychopath.
