Marvin Lewis, Bengals Agree to New Contract: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction
The Cincinnati Bengals and head coach Marvin Lewis agreed to a contract extension Friday, NFL Network's Michael Silver reported. ESPN's Coley Harvey later confirmed the news.
Lewis completed his 13th season as the Bengals head coach in 2015 and led them to a 12-4 record, his best mark as the team's coach. Cincinnati, though, failed to make it out of the Wild Card Round for the seventh time under Lewis thanks to a last-minute loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The loss didn't sit well with him, either, as he spoke with WLWT's Elise Jesse:

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Before Lewis took over the Bengals in 2003, they hadn't had a .500 season since 1996, or a winning one since 1990. In 2002, the year before his arrival, they won just two games.
Lewis went 8-8 in his first two seasons with the team and delivered an 11-5 campaign in 2005. In his 13 years, the Bengals have had only three losing seasons as he's built a 112-92-2 regular-season record.
Around the NFL's Chris Wesseling took a look at how he's fared compared to past Bengals coaches under owner Mike Brown:
Despite the success, Lewis' contract was set to expire at the end of the 2014 season, but he signed a one-year extension in April 2015.
Lewis and the Bengals have not recorded a single postseason win during his tenure, never making it out of the Wild Card Round. Lewis may have felt more pressure to deliver in the playoffs last year had the team not lost starting quarterback Andy Dalton, who fractured his right thumb. Instead, Cincinnati was forced to roll with AJ McCarron, who made his NFL debut that season.
If Lewis isn't able to guide the Bengals to some sort of playoff success in the near future, though, his leash might grow shorter in Cincinnati.
