WWE WrestleMania 2016 Results: Full Grades for Top Superstars at PPV

Aaron BowerApr 4, 2016

Frustrating endings and disappointing victors were the order of the day for the most part at WWE WrestleMania 32 on Sunday.

A predictable ending to the show with Roman Reigns' victory was mirrored with some other strange results and an overall feeling of flatness heading out of the marquee pay-per-view.

There were bright spots in the shape of some fantastic tussles, but you have to wonder whether WWE dropped the ball in its booking of the show.

As a result, some of the company's most talented stars feel like they took a step back at 'Mania.

Here are the grades for the top stars on show.

Dean Ambrose

1 of 5

As many people expected, WWE went down the route of booking Dean Ambrose as a valiant loser who put up a heck of a fight.

There was disappointment in that this match finished what seemed like way too early—but the story that was told was one that suggests Ambrose can look ahead in the coming months with hope for his in-ring future.

The match was well laid out, and Ambrose brought the violence to the bout, which felt crucial before it began.

There was no way Dean could have beaten The Beast cleanly, so he had to get creative with the No Holds Barred Street Fight stipulation. He delivered on a number of levels.

He sold Lesnar's offence well, and he played an impressive role in one of the bouts of the night.

Grade: A-

Brock Lesnar

2 of 5

At WrestleMania, Brock Lesnar produced the kind of performance we're used to seeing from him.

He was brutal without getting his hands on the weapons that Ambrose brought to the party, and his technical ability with a variety of suplexes certainly caught the eye.

His agility is frightening, and when he jumped up to the top rope to toss Ambrose nearly the full length of the ring, it was one of the moments of the match.

Like Ambrose, Lesnar also told the story of the match well. The moments when Dean was allowed to get on top were smartly played out, and Lesnar can feel satisfied with his work on the night.

Again, though, it's just a shame this match wasn't allowed to run over a touch—as it felt like it ended way too soon.

Grade: A-

Shane McMahon

3 of 5

This was a match that was never expected to be a mat classic, and that certainly proved to be the case.

We knew what Shane McMahon would bring in terms of his highlights. That elbow drop on Raw last week suggested WWE had something bigger and better up its sleeve for 'Mania, and Shane's leap from the top of the cell was a moment that will still be shown for years to come.

There was also Shane's patented leap from one corner to the other, kicking the trash can in the face of The Undertaker midway through the match.

In terms of wrestling matches, though, this was a bit of a disappointment. But credit to Shane for bringing the big spots and the big moments despite being 46 years of age.

Grade: B+

The Undertaker

4 of 5

Given The Undertaker is over 50, we should have never expected magic from The Deadman at WrestleMania 32.

But you just felt like he could never properly get into the bout here, as most of the match's big moments were built around Shane McMahon.

His offence was slow and labored, and there was little to write home about in terms of Taker's performance.

Him winning opens up the door for one more tilt at WrestleMania, but you feel Sunday's will go down as one of his more forgettable 'Mania performances.

Grade: C+

Roman Reigns and Triple H

5 of 5

Both these guys get drafted into one slide as an analysis of the WrestleMania main event, which seriously flattered to deceive.

Fans will have been prepared for a Roman Reigns victory at the expense of Triple H, but the ease with which he seemed to cast The Game aside was bizarre and ultimately disappointing.

There was so little storytelling and energy throughout, with only the odd moment of excitement happening outside of the ring.

Putting Reigns over clean tells us all that no matter what the audience thinks of him, he is going to be WWE's top babyface for some time.

But the lack of energy and drama didn't sell the main event at all. In fact, it left it limp and flat.

Grades: Reigns C-; Triple H C
