Julius Randle Fined $15,000 for Obscene Gesture: Latest Details and Reaction

Adam WellsApr 1, 2016

Los Angeles Lakers forward Julius Randle has been fined $15,000 for making an obscene gesture after hitting the game-winner with less than two seconds to go Wednesday against the Miami Heat.

The NBA announced Randle's fine Friday, per Sam Amick of USA Today.

After hitting the shot that would give the Lakers a 102-100 victory, Randle mimicked a gesture made popular by Sam Cassell during his playing days.

For film fans out there, the celebration by Randle and Cassell was also popularized by character Pedro Cerrano in Major League II.

Despite the hit to Randle's wallet, this was actually one of the best moments of the Lakers' season and a necessary distraction from everything that has gone on this week involving D'Angelo Russell, Nick Young and locker room trust.

Once the gold standard of NBA franchises, the Lakers have become a laughingstock. Their 16-59 record is the worst in the Western Conference and only seven games better than the lowly Philadelphia 76ers.

Randle's game-winning shot, while not likely to provide a dramatic turnaround to finish this year and build momentum for next season, did give the Lakers and their fans something to be happy about. He paid a steep price for it afterward with the celebration, but the final play before that was among the best things to happen in Los Angeles this season.
