Questionable Critics' Kevin Berge was a bit critical of the finish:
The History of WWE was also hoping to see more between the two:
The Conquerer and The Lunatic Fringe began their rivalry during the build toward Fastlane. They were part of a Triple Threat match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship that also included Roman Reigns, but much of their focus seemed to be on each other.
That manifested itself in the match when Ambrose took a chair to Lesnar and ultimately cost him a chance to vie for the world title.
That resulted in The Beast attacking the unstable Superstar in a parking garage prior to an episode of Raw, which prompted Ambrose to lay down a Street Fight challenge for WrestleMania that Lesnar and Paul Heyman later accepted.
After getting Lesnar to agree to his terms, Ambrose made it clear he believed he was at an advantage due to his vast experience in hardcore environments, according to WWE Universe on Twitter:
He even received endorsements from some of the biggest hardcore legends in the history of professional wrestling, namely Mick Foley and Terry Funk.
They passed down their respective weapons of choice to The Lunatic Fringe, with Foley bestowing his barbed-wire baseball bat onto him and giving him a massive endorsement, also via WWE Universe on Twitter:
That only served to empower the former Shield member even more, and he used that confidence to play mind games and poke the proverbial bear in the form of Lesnar, per WWE Universe on Twitter:
Ambrose did well during the build to WrestleMania to make it seem as though the playing field was fairly level, although Lesnar got his licks in as well, and Heyman stressed that not only could his Beast use weapons, but that his fists were as dangerous as anything Ambrose could throw at him.
That dynamic made for a remarkable match on wrestling's biggest stage, and even though many fans wanted Ambrose to vie for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, his performance against Lesnar did plenty to boost his credibility.
All signs pointed toward Lesnar facing Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania when The Wyatt Family took him out in the Royal Rumble, but the WWE Creative team called an audible, and it's fair to say that WrestleMania was much better for it.
Lesnar was ultimately able to overcome everything Ambrose threw at him, but he was certainly pushed to the brink, which should give Ambrose plenty of momentum moving forward.
The Beast Incarnate has been portrayed as one of the most dominant forces in WWE history throughout his second stint with the company, and the fact Ambrose was able to make him look mortal at times suggests the WWE brass has a ton of confidence in his abilities.
Lesnar getting the victory likely means there are big plans in place for him as should always be the case, but WrestleMania 32 may very well always be looked upon as Ambrose's coming-out party assuming he gets pushed to a main event level on a consistent basis, which is something he has undoubtedly earned.
