Chris Clemons to Seahawks: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction
After a two-year stint in Jacksonville, veteran defensive end Chris Clemons is back with the Seattle Seahawks.
Clemons and the Seahawks agreed to terms on April 1, according to the team's official website. ESPN.com's Sheil Kapadia reported on Saturday that Clemons signed a one-year contract with a "max value of [$1.5 million]. Base salary of [$1 million] with $150,000."
A fixture on NFL defensive lines for more than a decade, Clemons should step in right away for Seattle as a solid stopgap solution after Bruce Irvin bolted for the Oakland Raiders.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Clemons, 34, made just 14 tackles and three sacks last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He started just seven games after being a regular starter each of the last five seasons, and this came despite the Jags not boasting an elite pass rush. Pro Football Focus ranked him 110th among edge-rushers.
Still, Clemons is a veteran presence who has a history of NFL success. He was a vital cog in the Seahawks' Super Bowl XLVIII championship team and posted double-digit sacks in each of his first three seasons in Seattle.
Even Clemons' first season in Jacksonville wasn't all bad. Moving back and forth between defensive end and linebacker roles, Clemons had 36 tackles and eight sacks. He appeared to be a bargain on a four-year, $17.5 million contract, but losing his starting job on a bad defensive line in 2015 proved otherwise.
Seattle is banking on a lesser role helping him return to effectiveness as a situational player on a defensive line that already boasts stud pass-rushers in Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril.
Clemons will turn 35 in October, so it was a little infeasible for any team to expect him to take on an every-down role. Having him come in on third-down situations as a pass-rushing specialist might be the best move for all sides.
