Brock Lesnar vs. Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper: Winner, Reaction from WWE Roadblock
Brock Lesnar conquered what could have been his final challenge before WrestleMania Saturday night, as the Beast Incarnate defeated Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper at WWE Roadblock in Toronto.
Yes, it was the other member of the Wyatt Family facing the former WWE World Heavyweight champion, not the self-proclaimed New Face of Fear like it had been advertised. Wyatt proclaimed it would be him and Harper taking on Lesnar in an impromptu handicap match.
That is not what happened, though. Wyatt exited the ring and did not get involved in the match, fending Harper to face Lesnar himself. Although the former intercontinental champion got the early advantage on Lesnar, Harper was dominated and was finished off with an F5 for the three count, per WWE:
The battle between Lesnar and Wyatt was announced out of the blue in the week leading up to the event, but it wasn't without some context as issues between the two sides first came to light during the Royal Rumble match.
Lesnar was among the top contenders to win that bout and become WWE World Heavyweight champion, but Wyatt ordered Harper, Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman to assist him in taking out the Beast after they were already eliminated.
The Wyatt Family did precisely that, which seemingly set the stage for a WrestleMania match. Although, the creative team ultimately reversed course and decided to put Lesnar in an angle with Dean Ambrose instead.
Wyatt still got his shot against Lesnar at Roadblock, however, he did admit that doing so at the showcase of immortals would have been the ideal scenario, according to Nick Piccone of PhillyVoice.com:
"Of course I'd rather do it at WrestleMania. Then again, you don't know what I'm gonna do at WrestleMania. It's still an open-ended game for me. Like I said, to beat Brock Lesnar right before WrestleMania, you should be owed some kind of spot, some kind of high place - you know, I view myself as a high place player - I'm a serious player in this game and I intend to keep that.
"
Despite Wyatt's desire to lock horns with Lesnar at the biggest show of the year, he still attempted to seize the opportunity at Roadblock.
Leading up to Saturday's show, the Eater of Worlds had strong words for Lesnar and showed the utmost confidence in his ability to defeat perhaps the most dominant athlete in WWE history, per WWE Universe on Twitter:
As expected, though in an unusual way, Lesnar managed to come out on top and gain some momentum entering his huge Street Fight against Ambrose at WrestleMania. However, with Wyatt not getting involved in this match, one has to wonder how this will play in the buildup to WrestleMania.
Since only John Cena, Triple H and The Undertaker have defeated Lesnar in singles matches since his return to WWE in 2012, it was certainly expected that the Conqueror would reign supreme at Roadblock.
In addition to that, it is still unclear what role the Wyatt Family will play at WrestleMania, which made it obvious that Lesnar was the one who needed to look strong ahead of the big show at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
A victory over Wyatt has Lesnar looking as dangerous as ever, and it adds to the David-versus-Goliath feel that his clash with Ambrose is certain to have.
