Best Booking Options for Triple H vs. Dean Ambrose at WWE Roadblock Special
Dean Ambrose and Triple H are heading into battle for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Roadblock in two weeks.
On Monday's Raw, Triple H accepted Ambrose's challenge to defend the world title, and the next day WWE announced the two would square off at WWE Roadblock, the new name for the company's upcoming WWE Network special in Toronto on Saturday, March 12.
It's not unexpected. Rumors regarding a Triple H championship defense at the event were stoked last week after WWE inadvertently posted an announcement and screenshot (since removed) on its website (h/t Wrestling Inc).

The pieces have fallen perfectly in place for WWE to push this match in Toronto. Done properly, it could finally give the WrestleMania main event the story depth it has been seeking.
Use Ambrose to generate heat for Reigns feud
WWE has been facing a major problem in its build to WrestleMania's main event: The champion heel is more popular than his babyface challenger.
This was no more apparent than in the final segment of the Feb. 15 Raw. Triple H left Roman Reigns battered and bloodied after interfering in the night's main event. Instead of being vilified by the crowd, Triple H was was showered with cheers for laying out Reigns.
WWE needs to make fans care about Reigns again, like they did during the second half of 2015. The only way to do that is by putting as much heat on Triple H as possible.
Enter Ambrose.
The most over Superstar on the roster, pitting Ambrose against Triple H just weeks before WrestleMania 32 would work. A title defense in Toronto could help advance that angle, but only if done properly. WWE can't resort to screwball finishes or run-in attacks. Triple H needs to completely dismantle Ambrose to the point of annihilation.
Having Ambrose come inches from claiming the WWE title, only to see Reigns defeat The King of Kings at WrestleMania 32, would only stoke hatred for Reigns. Fans need to see Triple H not just beat Ambrose but break him.
It's the only way WWE can generate enough heat on Triple H to offset the general apathy a healthy portion of fans feel toward Reigns.
It's by no means a perfect angle, but a Triple H win is far better than the alternative.
Ambrose win would create more problems than solutions
Imagine if you will: Dean Ambrose defeats Triple H to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion at WWE Roadblock.
Such a result would create a chaotic ripple effect throughout the heavyweight division only two weeks from the company's penultimate showcase.
It would also be disastrous and ill-advised for a number of reasons.
WWE has already heavily promoted the climactic match between Triple H and Reigns for WrestleMania 32. It is the finish WWE Creative has been building toward for more than a year. An Ambrose win would put the wheels in motion for another WWE Creative retread: Ambrose vs. Reigns, a match fans have seen twice in the last six months (WWE Survivor Series, WWE Payback).
Which raises the question: What will happen at WrestleMania? Will Ambrose win, completely dismantling Reigns in the process? Maybe WWE Creative will turn Reigns heel, a point WWE Hall of Famer "Stone Cold" Steve Austin has brought up numerous times on his podcast (h/t Wrestling Inc.).
Or will WWE do the unthinkable and allow Reigns to beat Ambrose once again? If so, the potential backlash from 100,000-plus wrestling fans in Dallas would dwarf what WWE experienced at Royal Rumble 2015.
What about Brock?
An Ambrose win in Toronto and subsequent WrestleMania main event with Reigns would all but remove The Lunatic Fringe from his already announced WrestleMania 32 match with Brock Lesnar.
If that were to happen, Lesnar could be inserted into a feud with The Wyatt Family, supposedly the original plan dating from months ago.
It wouldn't be a stretch for WWE to start that feud. Lesnar was eliminated by The Wyatt Family at Royal Rumble, potentially costing him the World Heavyweight Championship. Just this week on Raw, Wyatt issued his typical pre-WrestleMania cryptic message, this time about insanity.
Nothing would be much more insane than calling out Brock Lesnar. Just ask Dean Ambrose.
Plus, a showdown between Lesnar and the Wyatts is already rumored to be on the books. The Beast Incarnate is tentatively scheduled to face Luke Harper at Roadblock, according to What Culture. It's not unreasonable to see WWE booking Lesnar to face either Bray Wyatt or Braun Strowman at The Showcase of the Immortals.
But is that the best use of Lesnar, to be the latest in a line of Superstars to bury the Wyatts? While Bray Wyatt and his flock have yet to be attached to any other Superstars heading into WrestleMania 32, Lesnar was already set to collide with Ambrose in a Street Fight, a match many WWE fans were delighted to hear about when first announced.
"Have a very strong feeling Brock is going to interrupt that Ambrose v Triple H match.
— Lee Morgan (@TheQueenHEEL) March 1, 2016"
Should WWE stick with its original plan and have Ambrose lose to Triple H, Roadblock could be a perfect opportunity to generate heat on Lesnar. He could attack an already injured Ambrose following the title match, incapacitating his WrestleMania opponent even further.
Such an outcome would enhance their match at WrestleMania. Lesnar would head into the event with tremendous heat for taking out fan favorite Ambrose. Ambrose would walk (or more likely limp) into WrestleMania with his "never say die" ethos fully intact. Being a street fight, either man could conceivably walk out of Dallas with the win, and it wouldn't hurt either Superstar.
But it all starts at Roadblock, and Triple H winning decisively. Any other scenario in Toronto—Lesnar interfering in the match, Triple H winning on a fluke, or Ambrose winning the title—does more harm than good heading into WrestleMania 32.
