EPL Table: Updated 2016 Standings, Top Scorers After Saturday's Week 27 Results

Tom SunderlandFeb 27, 2016

Goals were a rare commodity in the Premier League on Saturday, as Week 27 of the 2015-16 campaign saw leaders Leicester City clinch a 1-0 win over Norwich City without the scoring aid of Jamie Vardy or Riyad Mahrez.

Vardy's place atop the top-scorer ranks remains secure for the time being as Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane won't face Swansea City until Sunday, while Romelu Lukaku is out of action with Everton not playing this week.

Cesc Fabregas and Branislav Ivanovic were the heroes for Chelsea as Guus Hiddink's men rescued a 2-1 win at Southampton, and Odion Ighalo's barren run continued as Watford drew 0-0 at home to Bournemouth.

Leicester's Usual Suspects Held by Norwich

League leaders Leicester continued their dream run on Saturday thanks to a 1-0 win over the Canaries, but it was far from a dream win as they relied upon Leonardo Ulloa's 89th-minute winner to snatch three points.

Neither Vardy nor Mahrez could make the necessary impact in front of goal, and the Mirror's Liam Canning was left wondering when the latter would make his customary breakthrough entering the final phases against Norwich:

Ulloa, who scored 13 goals last season but has since fallen down Claudio Ranieri's pecking order, finally broke the deadlock 11 minutes after coming on as a substitute, while Vardy provided the assist.

Leicester fans wont care where the goals come from as long as results continue to fall their way, however, as shown by a member of the security staff at the King Power Stadium following Ulloa's winner, per Oddschecker:

Vardy remains three goals clear at the top of the Premier League goals table, but Spurs star Kane will have his chance to close the gap when Mauricio Pochettino's men face Swansea on Sunday.

Ighalo Muted Against Familiar Opposition

Watford played host to fellow Premier League new boys Bournemouth on Saturday having drawn 1-1 at Dean Court earlier this season, and the pair once again cancelled each other out with a 0-0 stalemate at Vicarage Road.

Hornets frontman Ighalo came into the matchup with 14 goals to his name and joint-fourth in the Premier League's top-scorer stakes, but the Nigerian missed several key chances that could have bagged three points for his side.

Bournemouth stopper Adam Federici should have been beaten early on, but Ighalo just failed to add the finishing touches and has now failed to score in four league matches, his worst run of the 2015-16 campaign.

Nordin Amrabat crossed in to open up a final opportunity for the striker in the latter stages of the game, but Ighalo couldn't convert a simple header. Per Match of the Day, Watford are now challenging for the most 0-0 stalemates this season:

Ighalo ended a splendid 2015 with seven goals in six Premier League games for Quique Sanchez Flores' side, but his lack of recent form in front of goal may well worry his boss.
