Where Will 2016 No. 1 WR Demetris Robertson Land?

It’s been two weeks since national signing day, but one of the nation’s premier skill talents in the 2016 class is still unsigned: 5-star receiver Demetris Robertson.

Among the programs in the running to eventually land the nation’s top wideout and the No. 14 overall prospect in the 2016 class are Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame and Stanford.

As Kipp Adams of Dawgs247 noted, part of the reason for the delay in his decision is his quest to earn the necessary test scores required for entry into Stanford.

However, Notre Dame is the school that is considered the leader as Robertson’s recruitment plays out.

Adams also reported that a visit to Georgia this weekend is not certain and that a decision may not come until next month at the earliest.

But with Robertson’s decision to keep his options open, which school is ultimately the favorite to land the Peach State standout? The Irish seem to be in the driver’s seat, but his hesitation to end the process soon suggests that he’s still has a way to go in reaching a conclusion.

New Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart will continue to press the homegrown product on staying in-state, regardless of whether or not his visit to UGA’s campus occurs this weekend.

The pressure to stay in the state may be a factor in most recruitments similar to Robertson’s, but as Tom Loy of 247Sports detailed, there’s a school of thought that suggests that Robertson will eventually land at either Notre Dame or Stanford because of his desire to play for an academic power.

Robertson told Adams (via Loy) that his official visit to South Bend last September made a lasting impression on him.

“Just the visit I went on,” Robertson said. “I could feel myself there. I didn’t really go when it was really cold, and I’ve heard people talk about that, but I really liked the campus. I really liked the environment. I liked the people. I’m not going to base it on the coaching staff because they could leave at any time.”

At one point early in the process, Robertson had given his verbal commitment to Alabama.

The Tide are still listed as a school in the running with him, but multiple plans to make a return trip to Tuscaloosa have fallen through for various reasons, as noted by BamaOnline’s Hank South.

If he is able to gain entry into Stanford, Robertson’s recruitment could take yet another turn. However, until that happens, South Bend appears to be his eventual landing spot, barring any last-minute surprises.
