Netflix Drops 'Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young' Trailer in New Video Ahead of Release Date
"This is my testimony."
Vince Young went from college superhero to NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year to a professional disappointment during his roller coaster of a football career, and now he is opening up about his entire football journey in the upcoming Netflix documentary Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young.
Netflix released the trailer for the latest edition of its Untold series Wednesday for the documentary that will release on Aug. 25, and it features first-person interviews with Young, former Texas head coach Mack Brown, former USC quarterback Matt Leinart and others.
To the surprise of nobody, it also features plenty of Young's individual brilliance at Texas.
After all, he remains best known for his collegiate career that saw him lead the Longhorns to the national championship during the 2005 season. It was the team's dramatic Rose Bowl victory over Leinart's Trojans that propelled Young into instant stardom and made him a household name overnight.
It is still remembered as arguably the greatest college football game in the sport's history, and Young's touchdown run in the final seconds proved to be the difference.
Yet Young admits in the trailer he "couldn't handle" the stardom that came with that game, which surely impacted his NFL career that began when the Tennessee Titans selected him with the No. 3 overall pick of the 2006 draft.
While Young won Offensive Rookie of the Year and was a two-time Pro Bowler, the documentary previews the tensions that were in place with head coach Jeff Fisher and the challenges Young faced early in his career.
He ultimately failed to live up to the sky-high expectations surrounding him and finished his NFL career with 46 touchdown passes to 51 interceptions. Young's last regular-season NFL appearance came during the 2011 campaign, and he admits in the trailer he is not fully at peace with his football journey.
"Drinking, partying, fighting, everything I went through and things that I never thought would happen to me in my life. โฆ My anger, my frustration got the best of me," he said. "But I prayed about it, and I moved on. This is my testimony."
That full testimony will be on display Aug. 25 when the documentary is released.
