Top 10 Goals from Around the World This Weekend

Tom WebbFeb 7, 2016

It's something of a volley special in our top 10 this weekend, with no less than than four sensational goals coming with the ball sitting up nicely in the air.

Besides that, Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez and Manchester United's Jesse Lingard represent the Premier League, while there are also a couple of tasty strikes from the Bundesliga.

So whether you've seen them already or not at all, click through and enjoy our top 10 goals of the weekend.

Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City)

1 of 10

Leicester City stunned Manchester City with a 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, a result that took the Foxes six points clear of Manuel Pellegrini's side.

Robert Huth scored twice for the visitors, but it was Mahrez's strike just after half-time that stood out.

The Algerian sensation skipped through Nicolas Otamendi's wild challenge and wrong-footed Martin Demichelis with a neat stepover, before firing a clinical finish past Joe Hart.

You can watch Mahrez's fine goal here, as the Claudio Ranieri's side enjoy a healthy lead at the top of the Premier League.

Havard Nordtveit (Borussia Monchengladbach)

2 of 10

Borussia Monchengladbach stormed to a 5-1 win over Werder Bremen on Friday, a result capped off with a stunning strike from former Arsenal youngster Havard Nordtveit.

The Norwegian midfielder spent three years in north London before joining Monchengladbach in 2011, marking his most recent appearance with a brilliant goal.

Picking up the ball in the closing minutes some 30 yards from goal, Nordtveit looked up and planted a pin-point finish over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Nice.

Kostas Stafylidis (Augsburg)

3 of 10

Ingolstadt continued their impressive season with a 2-1 win over Augsburg on Saturday. But it was the away side who struck first at the Audi-Sportpark, courtesy of a stunning goal from Kostas Stafylidis.

Just 13 minutes had passed when the ball bounced invitingly in front of the Greek left-back some 25 yards from goal.

Waiting for the ball to sit up, Stafylidis got himself into position before hitting the sweetest of strikes into the far top corner.

Augsburg might have lost, but at least they had something positive to remember the game by.

Matej Jelic (Rapid Wien)

4 of 10

Rapid Wien kept within three points of the top of the Austrian Bundesliga with a 3-0 win over Wolfsberg on Saturday.

The highlight was undoubtedly provided by Matej Jelic, who wrapped up the win with a brilliant bicycle kick.

Rapid were already two up when Philipp Schobesberger delivered an inviting right-wing cross, prompting Jelic to launch himself into a perfectly executed acrobatic kick. Woof.

Riechedly Bazoer (Ajax)

5 of 10

Ajax ran out 2-1 victors in Sunday's de klassieker tie with Feyenoord at the Amsterdam Arena, largely thanks to a brilliant winning goal from Riechedly Bazoer.

The home side had come from behind to leave the game evenly poised after the hour mark, when the ball fell invitingly for Bazoer approximately 25 yards from goal.

The Dutch midfielder needed no further encouragement, lashing a ferocious strike that left the goalkeeper with no chance as it flew into the top corner.

A worthy winner for any game.

Ricardinho (Portugal)

6 of 10

OK, including a futsal goal might be cheating slightly on my part, but this just had to be in there.

Portugal winger Ricardinho is well-known as one of the biggest stars of the indoor game, and during Saturday's Euro 2016 tie with Serbia, he showed just why.

Receiving the ball on the left side of the pitch, Ricardinho bamboozled his defender with a simply outrageous piece of skill before lashing a powerful half-volley into the net.

The Portugal No.9's reaction just says it all...

Gustavo (America de Natal)

7 of 10

America de Natal's Gustavo showed that defenders can score outrageous acrobatic goals too with an incredible effort in his side's 3-1 win over Potiguar Mossoro on Saturday.

The game started frantically with Potiguar taking a first-minute lead, only for America to hit back three minutes later through Luiz Eduardo.

With the scores level at 1-1 and still only seven minutes on the clock, America attacked down the right side. An inviting cross was chipped towards the penalty spot, where Gustavo greeted it with a stunning volley.

Naturally, the game calmed down somewhat after that—after all, it would take something extraordinary to match Gustavo's goal.

Gary Hooper (Sheffield Wednesday)

8 of 10

Gary Hooper was the hero for Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday as he scored twice in two minutes to clinch a 2-1 win away to Birmingham City.

The Owls trailed to Clayton Donaldson's goal just before half-time when Atdhe Nuhiu and Barry Bannan exchanged passes before feeding Hooper, who feinted past a defender and planted a clinical finish into the back of the net.

Hooper then struck again almost immediately to earn Wednesday an important win.

Craig Bryson (Derby County)

9 of 10

Craig Bryson earned Derby County a point away to Fulham on Saturday with a well-taken volley form the edge of the box.

Derby trailed to Marcus Olsson's 17th-minute own goal when Chris Martin's cross reached Bryson at an awkward height on the edge of the box.

But the midfielder adjusted brilliantly to side-foot a perfect first-time effort into the top corner.

There have been lots of tasty volleys this weekend, and this one was no different.

Jesse Lingard (Manchester United)

10 of 10

Lingard provided another example of his immense talent on Sunday with a beautiful goal in Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The sides were deadlocked at 0-0 when Wayne Rooney picked out Lingard in the box after 61 minutes.

There appeared to be little on for the England under-21 midfielder with his back to goal, but he twisted effortlessly before sending a stunning half-volley into the top corner.

Diego Costa grabbed a late equaliser for the Blues, but it was Lingard's strike that undoubtedly provided the moment of the match.
