WWE's Top Stories, Rumors and Buzz for Week of January 30

The Doctor Chris MuellerJan 30, 2016

The Royal Rumble pay-per-view on Sunday changed the landscape of WWE heading into 2016. Triple H won his 14th world title, Kalisto regained the United States Championship and AJ Styles officially arrived in WWE.

Those are the big stories from the past week inside the ring, but a lot has been going on outside the squared circle too. Let's look at some of the big news stories from the past seven days.

NXT Talent Heading to the Olympics

TOP NEWS

Monday Night RAW

According to WWE.com, NXT rookie Adrian Jaoude has been selected to represent Brazil in freestyle wrestling at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

While WWE has had plenty of Olympians enter the squared circle after competing against the rest of the world, this is the first time a star who is signed to the promotion has been chosen to compete at the event.

Jaoude has yet to make his debut for the NXT brand, but if he performs well in the Olympic Games, you can bet he will be given a big push upon returning.

The up-and-coming Superstar would join the likes of Kurt Angle, Mark Henry and fellow NXT rookie Chad Gable as wrestlers who have competed in both the Olympics and WWE.

Sheamus' Injury

The WWE roster is plagued by a number of injures. Seth Rollins, John Cena, Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton, Nikki Bella and Cesaro are all sidelined with various issues, and Sheamus has been added to the list.

The Celtic Warrior posted a picture to his Twitter account showing him with a cast on his arm. According to Dave Meltzer of f4wonline, the injury might not keep him out of action for long.

Apparently, the cast is to help him with an existing tendinitis issue, so he may be involved in storylines with The League of Nations while doing minimal physical activity until he recovers.

This news comes at a bad time for WWE. With so many top stars on the shelf, the company can't afford to lose another top talent, especially with WrestleMania 32 coming up in April.

Let's hope Sheamus' condition improves quickly so he can get back to kicking people in the face as fast as possible.

Shinsuke Nakamura's Debut Date Confirmed

After weeks of speculation regarding a handful of New Japan Pro Wrestling talents, we now have confirmation of when one of them will debut for a WWE brand.

William Regal announced during a recent NXT taping that Shinsuke Nakamura will be making his bow at NXT TakeOver: Dallas.

This is great news as Nakamura is a gifted competitor with an equally impressive resume. He has earned the nickname The King of Strong Style for his stiff strikes and submission prowess.

Anyone who has never seen Nakamura compete should immediately go to YouTube and look up his work. You will not be sorry.

Nikki Bella Undergoes Successful Neck Surgery

Nikki Bella recently learned she would have to undergo possibly career-threatening neck surgery to fix issues stemming from her time in the ring. Thankfully, the procedure was a success.

Brie Bella posted an update on the twins' Twitter account letting everyone know Nikki was recovering from surgery and hoped to return to the ring.

Nikki also posted a photo of herself in a neck brace with a message saying she is feeling better every day and can't wait to get back to work.

While she has been overshadowed by the likes of Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Becky Lynch in recent months, there is no denying Nikki's contributions to the Divas division in recent times.

The longest-reigning Divas champion in history has earned a reputation as a great heel with a strong work ethic. Let's hope she makes a speedy recovery.

Stephen Amell Issues New Challenge to Stardust

Arrow star Stephen Amell and Neville defeated Stardust and King Barrett at SummerSlam 2015, but now TV's Emerald Archer has a new challenge for the former Cody Rhodes.

Amell issued a challenge through his Twitter account for Stardust to hand over the Slammy Award for Celebrity Moment of the Year so it can be raffled off to benefit Elijah Mainville, known affectionately as Drax Shadow.

Amell and Stardust put aside their differences last year to support Emily's House in Toronto, Canada, raising almost $300,000 in just five days for the children's hospice through a T-shirt campaign.

The two rivals have teamed up with Represent.com once again to create a special shirt, with all proceeds going to Mainville's treatment for Stage 4 cancer.

It's great to see so many WWE Superstars taking part in worthy causes. Using their celebrity names to help those in need brings them closer to superhero status than wearing tights and beating people up ever could.
