WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from January 25

Erik BeastonJan 26, 2016

The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment made his return to WWE television on Monday night, as The Rock set foot inside the squared circle and entertained fans as only he could.

From interactions with The Miz, Big Show, Lana and Rusev backstage to the confrontation he had with The New Day in the arena, he had viewers hanging on every word.

In front of his hometown fans in Miami, he once again demonstrated why his presence alone generates an excitement no other Superstar can possibly replicate. Whether he was knocking on Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E's unicorn horns or interacting with fans dressed as legendary wrestlers at ringside, The Rock commanded the attention of the audience.

There are some who may suggest that The New Day was hurt in some way by being beaten down, with Woods enduring the People's Elbow, but it was the exact opposite. Being picked for that spot means both management and The Rock trusted the group enough to hold up its end.

And it did.

The result was one of the best and most fun segments of Raw in years, making the fans of World Wrestling Entertainment the biggest winners from the January 25 episode of Raw.

Which Superstars and Divas found themselves on the winner's side of the equation on Monday night? Which came off a strong Royal Rumble pay-per-view and wound up suffering on the loser's side?

Take a look.

Winner: AJ Styles

The Phenomenal One made his Raw debut one night after shocking the world by entering the Royal Rumble. His first opponent? Chris Jericho, who mockingly welcomed him to the big leagues prior to the match but found out moments later just how great a wrestler Styles is.

The former NWA, TNA and IWGP world champion countered a roll-up by Y2J to score the clean pinfall victory, putting an exclamation point on a monumental weekend.

Of all the questions surrounding his arrival in WWE, the biggest facing Styles was how fans unfamiliar with his work would accept him. They have greeted him on two separate occasions with sizable pops, indicating that they are ready to get behind him.

Now it is up to the company to support him with strong booking or risk wasting Styles' considerable star power. A decisive victory over a Hall of Famer like Jericho is a great start.

Loser: Bray Wyatt

One night after planting the seeds for a WrestleMania showdown with Brock Lesnar, Bray Wyatt should have rolled into Raw and destroyed whichever unfortunate soul was put in front of him.

Instead, he was booked in a match against Kane.

It was the same Kane he has been engaged in a feud with dating back to last November, and the resulting match was a seven-minute bout in which the entire Wyatt Family became involved, leading to Bray's victory.

Why WWE Creative thought the best path to strengthening Wyatt was to have him struggle to defeat Kane in singles competition is a mystery. It often takes a character it hopes to heat up and then, inexplicably, books him in a way that halts all momentum from the get-go.

No one will believe Wyatt can conceivably defeat Brock Lesnar on the biggest stage in sports entertainment when he can barely get past Kane without help from his followers. It is an issue WWE must address. Otherwise, watch as another Wyatt push fails.

Loser: Rusev

If The Bulgarian Brute's treatment at Royal Rumble was not evidence enough of his downward-spiraling career, Monday night certainly was.

Once a feared competitor who beat any and all Superstars put in front of him, Rusev has become a joke, an afterthought in the WWE Universe.

After being eliminated by Roman Reigns less than two minutes into the Royal Rumble match, Rusev was the butt of jokes from The Rock, then pummeled and powerbombed through a table by Reigns and Dean Ambrose.

A character that should have been a sustained main event star for years, a super-athlete the likes of which WWE fans had never seen before, Rusev is now firmly entrenched in the midcard, his credibility shot.

Winner: Triple H

Love or hate the decision to give him another run with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Triple H cut a fantastic promo to kick off Raw.

Referring to professional wrestling as his religion was outstanding, but the conviction he showed while doing so is what put the promo over the top. It was not a stretch at all to believe every word he said, which is the sign of a master on the mic.

Refusing to allow anyone to take the WWE title away from him until he is ready to let them was another solid addition to the promo, if only because he has the power to hold on to it even if he cannot physically do so.

On a night when Triple H had to step up and firmly establish himself as the heel the road to WrestleMania 32 will be built around, he excelled, even generating a "Roman" chant from the fans in Miami.
