WWE SmackDown Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from January 21

Erik BeastonJan 22, 2016

The Wyatt Family's new t-shirt reads "Down with the Machine," and if Bray and company have their way on Sunday night at the Royal Rumble, they will bring World Wrestling Entertainment to its knees.

Thursday night on SmackDown, the Reaper of Souls continued his march to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, leading a four-on-one beatdown of Roman Reigns to close out the show.

Just three days removed from a similar assault of Brock Lesnar, The Wyatt Family has been heated up significantly ahead of Sunday's WWE Network extravaganza, with Bray appearing as a legitimate threat to end Reigns' title run.

It has been a long time coming.

For most of 2015, The Wyatt Family was treated as a midcard heel act, feuding with the likes of Ryback and enjoying increased television while feuding with Undertaker and Kane in a one-sided program before falling right back into the muddled mix of misused stars.

Now on the Road to WrestleMania, and the opportunity to step up at a time when injuries have greatly depleted the roster, one can only hope Wyatt and his followers benefit from the opportunities that have presented themselves to other Superstars.

A decisive win over Ryback and the beatdown of Reigns to close out the broadcast earned Bray Wyatt the status of biggest winner from the January 21 episode of SmackDown. Who else had a satisfying night, and which competitors were not quite as lucky?

Take a look.

Winner: Becky Lynch

The build to Royal Rumble and the Divas Championship match against Charlotte has benefited Becky Lynch tremendously. Not only is her story with the second-generation Diva simplistic and incredibly effective, but working with the legendary Ric Flair has helped elevate her star exponentially.

On Thursday night, The Lass Kicker picked up a quality victory over Alicia Fox in a solid wrestling match. From there, she stood inside the squared circle, looking down at Charlotte at the commentary position, making it clear to her former Team PCB mate she is coming for the title.

In Lynch, the Divas division has a legitimate lead babyface, one whose character does not change on a weekly basis or lend itself to some ridiculous reality show. She is a wrestler above all, and fans are starting to come around on the Irish competitor just in time for the biggest push of her career.

Losers: Titus O'Neil and Stardust

It would be easy to suggest Stardust is the real loser in the ongoing rivalry with Titus O'Neil, especially given how many times he has lost over the course of it, and that argument would be a valid one. But for as many televised matches as he has won, O'Neil has not benefited. Nor has he seen his star elevated at all since the feud began late last year.

Lately, singles bouts between the two have been thrown on television to kill time. There has been no progression, the characters have not been developed and the result has been boring in-ring content that has devalued both performers.

On SmackDown, they plied their craft to dead silence, O'Neil winning the match and not a single soul caring.

That is hardly the way to treat talent at a time when the company should be focused on creating stars.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler

While it will likely have no effect on his placement on the card, a bigger deal was made of Dolph Ziggler for painting his face like an Uso on SmackDown than for anything else he has done over the last six months. Commentators even went as far as to point out the tweet put out by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson welcoming The Showoff to the family.

Always a hard worker who puts others over more than himself, it was nice to see Ziggler put back into the spotlight as he teamed with The Usos to defeat The New Day.

Even if the match was entirely random.
