Analyzing Potential Chris Jericho vs. Dean Ambrose Feud for WWE WrestleMania 32
Chris Jericho is back with one goal: become WWE champion again.
The man known as Y2J returned on Monday Night Raw in late December to announce he would enter the Royal Rumble match on January 24. Jericho has feuded with The New Day ever since.
It’s been a comedic war of sorts between Jericho and The New Day, with Jericho most recently destroying Xavier Woods’ trombone.

Despite the playful manner, Jericho can be useful beyond the Royal Rumble. Why bring Jericho back for one appearance and not have him stay just a little longer? After all, it is WrestleMania season.
WrestleMania 32 will take place in Dallas on April 3. WWE needs all hands on deck considering its current full-time stars are Roman Reigns, Sheamus, Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose. Brock Lesnar will most likely also appear at the gigantic event.
Heavy hitters Seth Rollins, John Cena, Randy Orton and Cesaro are currently inactive due to multiple injuries and will most likely miss WrestleMania.
Where does that leave Jericho? This situation leaves him with plenty of room to make an impact at WrestleMania. Jericho can still provide a great presence to help anyone on the roster. His feud with The New Day is memorable enough, but taking their feud to WrestleMania would hurt the tag team division further.
Jericho is better off feuding someone with notoriety that could use the win. He’s more suited to battle in singles competition.
The person best suited for this task actually has history with Jericho. That potential opponent is none other than current Intercontinental champion Dean Ambrose.
Let’s analyze the potential feud between Ambrose and Jericho at WrestleMania 32.
First, they have history to build off. Jericho and Ambrose teamed up with Roman Reigns to face The Wyatt Family at September’s Night of Champions. Jericho blind-tagged himself in only to pass out to Braun Strowman’s head-and-arm triangle.
After the match, Jericho bumped Ambrose’s shoulder and left them high and dry. This was Jericho’s last appearance before his return.
Since then, Ambrose has gotten back to his winning ways.
Ambrose, ever The Lunatic, won the Intercontinental title at TLC, beating Owens in a hard-fought victory. It’s not often Ambrose wins big matches, but he’s done so ever since his title win.
Ambrose and Owens are currently embroiled in an intense feud. What happens after their feud ends is anybody’s guess, but Jericho should be Ambrose’s next serious opponent.
Jericho is better suited as a heel than a clear-cut babyface. Ambrose is the right guy for Jericho to face because of Ambrose’s popularity. He won’t have to worry about the majority of the crowd chanting for both men.
Ambrose is also the right guy that needs the rub. Jericho can take wrestlers to a whole new level. Jericho’s feud with CM Punk in 2012 added a new dimension to Punk’s character. The next year, Jericho helped create a new fad in Fandango.
Jericho takes his opponents to a new level. Granted, Ambrose is a very popular star already, but imagine where he could go after taking on Jericho.
A Jericho/Ambrose battle is where the story should go.
Have Ambrose enter the Royal Rumble and eliminate Jericho. The veteran would seek revenge on the young Ambrose, stalking him until Ambrose has had enough. The tale of vengeance would take them to WrestleMania, possibly for Ambrose’s title.
It’s where Ambrose would get his revenge and defeat Jericho at WrestleMania 32.
The bout would consist of back-and-forth action, culminating in Ambrose’s victory. In doing so, Jericho’s return isn’t squandered. It gives both Jericho and Ambrose purpose.
Frankly, having Jericho at WrestleMania 32 is the better story. Pitting Jericho against Ambrose at WrestleMania is the right call for WWE Creative to make.
Set the table for both men, WWE. It’s time for Jericho to catapult Ambrose to the next level.
