WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for January 14
Monday night on Raw, Kalisto defeated Alberto Del Rio to capture the United States Championship. Tuesday night during this week's SmackDown tapings, the masked luchador would be tasked with defending his title for the first time against the man he defeated for the gold.
That was hardly the only midcard program addressed during this week's show, as Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens again took center stage, with their war of attrition over the WWE Intercontinental Championship writing its latest chapter in the form of a tag team match pitting Ambrose and Neville against Owens and Sheamus.
Then there was the Tables match between The Dudley Boyz and The Wyatt Family's Erick Rowan and Luke Harper as their never-ending feud continued.

Analysis
Can someone explain what the purpose of putting the United States Championship on Kalisto Monday night was? If "to setup another title change on SmackDown so fans will watch the show" is the answer, WWE Creative is more inept than originally thought.
Kalisto's victory on Raw was a moment that made fans feel good; it elicited tweets of congratulations from those legitimately excited and happy for their peer. In one night, the company undid all of that goodwill by putting the title back on a guy who, for all the pushes he's received and all the television time he's benefited from over the years, has never been as over as management had hoped he would be.
It is disheartening to see a guy who worked hard and was rewarded for it, only to be stripped of his prize one night later in an attempt to tell essentially the same story the company told with Roman Reigns at Survivor Series.
The entire ordeal makes no sense and serves only to strengthen Del Rio's inflated resume.
Why the company thought booking The Dudley Boyz to defeat Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, only to lose their heat courtesy of Braun Strowman immediately thereafter, was anything even remotely close to product is a mystery. It's yet another questionable booking decision to come out of Tuesday's show.
And finally, booking a second straight main event to end via double count-out is hardly the way to entice fans to tune in next week.
Would this week's show live up to the entertaining standard set for it last week?
The answer, based on the results from Tuesday's tapings, is an emphatic "no."
