Seattle Seahawks at Minnesota Vikings
This isn't much of a reward for the Minnesota Vikings winning the NFC North on the final day of the season against the Green Bay Packers. While they get to host a playoff game, they welcome in the two-time defending NFC champion Seattle Seahawks.
After starting the season 2-4, Seattle reeled off eight wins in its last 10 games, including a resounding 38-7 win over the Vikings in Minnesota on Dec. 6.
Quarterback Russell Wilson has been a man possessed over the last seven weeks of the season, turning his season around to put up a career year with 4,024 yards and 34 touchdowns.
| 65.8 | Completion Percentage | 71 |
| 2,118 | Yards | 1,906 |
| 10 | Touchdowns | 24 |
| 7 | Interceptions | 1 |
| 92.1 | QB Rating | 130.3 |
| 4-5 | Team W-L | 6-1 |
The newfound explosive passing game has carried the Seahawks offense that still managed to get plenty out of its backup running backs Thomas Rawls and Christine Michael while Marshawn Lynch was sidelined with injury.
But mother nature might be throwing the Vikings a bone. According to ESPN.com's Ben Goessling, Minnesota's first outdoor home playoff game since 1976 has temperatures projected to hit a high of 1 degree on Sunday.
Per Accuweather.com on Friday, the temperature will feel like it is minus-10 degrees.
In that kind of weather, it will be difficult to feel your hands, which might slow down the Seahawks' passing game, thus making them rely on a run game that won't have Lynch or Rawls.
It's a big loss no having Lynch in the backfield, as the NFL on ESPN shows:
It wouldn't have been easy for him to get settled back into the Seahawks offense in such cold temperatures. With every impact, every hit comes pain. That's how it is in extreme cold. And hitting the turf will be like hitting cement.
Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson has played in every game this season, but he's coming into Sunday nicked up as well with a back injury. If Peterson isn't running well, the Vikings have no chance in this game.
Even if the running game can't get going and the Seahawks offense stalls, Seattle's defense has been hot in the past five weeks, allowing single-digit points in three of them. One of those victims was the Vikings offense.
The temperature will keep this close, but Seattle will win the game.
Prediction: Seattle defeats Minnesota 24-17
Green Bay Packers at Washington Redskins
What a flip in performance there's been with the Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers in the last month of the season.
The performance of their respective quarterbacks tells the tale of the tape. Green Bay, which started the season 6-0, won just four of its last 10 games while quarterback Aaron Rodgers struggled mightily.
Washington won its last four on its way to the NFC East title as quarterback Kirk Cousins has put together pristine numbers. NFL Network takes a look at Washington's numbers since Week 7:
The Redskins even put together this nice little montage of Cousins' remarkable play to finish the season:
Of course, this means that the Redskins should be able to put together a solid outing on Sunday and get past the Packers.
Not so fast.
Finishing at 9-7, including a 6-2 stretch in their last eight games, all of the Redskins' wins came against teams that finished the season at or under .500.
In fact, the Redskins only played three winning teams all season in the Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots and New York Jets. In those games, they were outscored 105-46.
Say what you want about his struggles, but Aaron Rodgers is still one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and he's ridiculous in the playoffs.
In 11 playoff games in which he's started, Rodgers has thrown for 2,983 yards with 23 touchdowns and seven interceptions. It doesn't matter that Jordy Nelson is still missing. It doesn't matter that Rodgers has been subpar over the past month.
But at the end of the day, if I'm picking a quarterback for my team in the playoffs, I'm taking Rodgers and playoff experience over Cousins coming out of the weakest division in football.
Prediction: Green Bay defeats Washington 31-24
