Cameron, James Storm and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News

Ryan DilbertJan 6, 2016

Cameron is looking to rejuvenate her career at WWE NXT, a place James Storm chose to leave behind.

After a disappointing stretch on the main roster, Cameron has gone back to square one. She's been busy working on her game at the WWE Performance Center.

Storm, meanwhile, declined an offer to stick around the developmental brand. He instead chose to go to a familiar place with a familiar tag team partner.

Other NXT news to kick off the year includes the brand's upcoming tour, the opportunity Chad Gable and Jason Jordan have ahead of them and the rumored New Japan Pro Wrestling talent raid. That last item would be a landscape-changing situation should it come to pass.

Big Rumored Signings

Is NXT or WWE set to experience an invasion?

Reports have pointed to AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling for WWE. According to F4WOnline, all four talents have given their notice to NJPW.

The report stated, "It appears that those with current NJPW contracts will be finishing up their contracted dates before heading to WWE. It is unknown whether or not they will start on the main roster or head to NXT."

On PWInsider, though, Mike Johnson reported those rumored deals aren't done. He wrote that nothing is confirmed as of now.

WWE.com did release an article speculating on the signings, a potential sign the rumors are in fact true.

With the kind of money it would take to sign Nakamura and Styles, it would make little sense to use them as part of the developmental brand. Perhaps they head there for a short while to adjust to the WWE style, but one has to assume they would be main roster-bound in a hurry.

Gallows and Anderson would be a good fit for NXT, however. That's especially true if WWE was to reunite them with former Bullet Club leader Finn Balor.

NXT Set to Go on Tour

NXT will again venture outside of Florida, continuing to expand its reach.

WWE announced on its official website that "NXT will make its debut in Memphis, Indianapolis and New Jersey while also making its return to Nashville, Philadelphia and Albany, New York." The tour will begin in February in Memphis and ends in Albany a few weeks later.

With as well as previous shows have done outside of the NXT home base, it's no surprise NXT keeps trying out new markets.

While the brand is still red-hot, it's just good business to have it move around the country like this. The brand fills a growing niche. Taking advantage of that this way is a no-brainer.

James Storm Heads to TNA over NXT

3 of 5

The James Storm-NXT relationship ended before it really got going. After just two matches at Full Sail University, The Cowboy returned to TNA.

He appeared on the first Impact Wrestling to air on Pop TV. Storm then announced he and Bobby Roode will reform Beer Money.

And so ends Storm's brief flirtation with NXT.

As to why Storm went back to the company where he first made his name, Ryan Satin reported on Pro Wrestling Sheet, "Sources close to the situation tell us after months of negotiations, WWE was only willing to offer him a deal that would bring Storm less than $100,000 a year. TNA, on the other hand, was offering two-and-a-half times more than that."

It's hard to blame Storm for going for a bigger payday, especially knowing he will likely be a higher priority at TNA than he would be at NXT.

Cameron Talks Training at WWE Performance Center

4 of 5

Aside from a single showdown with Asuka last November, fans haven't seen much of Cameron.

That's because she's working on rebuilding herself, improving her in-ring skills and looking to change her fortunes through hard work. Cameron spoke with Cary Castagna of the Edmonton Sun about what she's been up to of late.

She said, "Sometimes you have to take a few steps backwards in order to move a few steps forward. So that's what I decided to do. I'm doing that in hopes of coming back bigger and stronger than ever."

The former Funkadactyl said she spends half her time training in California and the other half in Florida with NXT. Cameron is working with a personal trainer as well as the NXT staff.

Even with significant improvement, climbing up the ladder of the women's division will be tough. Talent is plentiful at this point with women like Asuka, Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax closing in on Bayley for the top spot.

Other News, Notes

An emerging tag team is set to travel across the world with the main roster. PWInsider's Mike Johnson reported, "Chad Gable and Jason Jordan are booked to work the WWE India dates later this month."

The fact NXT selected them for this spot is a good sign for the duo.

Bayley earned her own opportunity to compete with the main roster. As noted on ProWrestling.net, Bayley worked a WWE house show in Corpus Christi, Texas, over the weekend. She knocked off Naomi in singles action.

And a current NXT star tied the knot with a former prospect that same night. ProWrestling.net reported Aiden English and Shaul Guerrero got married Jan. 3.
