Quartney Davis Decommits from Texas A&M: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction
Wide receiver Quartney Davis, a 4-star recruit, announced he is decommitting from Texas A&M and reopening his commitment in a statement released on his Twitter feed on Wednesday:
Davis originally committed to Texas A&M in June, choosing the Aggies over the likes of Michigan State, Oklahoma State and Cal. It's unclear what schools Davis will consider now, but he said he plans on taking all five of his official visits. Davis did not indicate whether Texas A&M would still be included in his final five.
Listed at 6'2" and 181 pounds, Davis is ranked No. 145 nationally and is the 27th-best receiver in the country, per 247Sports' composite rankings. He's been on an ascending trajectory throughout his senior season, moving up from a ranking outside the top 300.
While he doesn't have one elite skill, Davis makes up for it by being a solid all-around prospect. He has above-average speed, quickness and hands while also flashing solid development as a route-runner. Going into head coach Kevin Sumlin's system seemed perfect on paper, as the Texas A&M coach could have done a lot to polish him into a true instant threat.
As it stands, Texas A&M is having a rough week. Last Thursday, quarterback Kyle Allen announced his intention to transfer from College Station, and earlier Wednesday, Billy Liucci of TexAgs.com reported fellow signal-caller Kyler Murray planned to follow suit. Murray and Allen were the Aggies' two starting quarterbacks this season, but both struggled mightily to develop under Sumlin.
With Davis also rethinking his choice, one has to wonder what this means for Sumlin's formerly golden recruiting touch.
