Latest on Schaub's Practice Status
Wednesday, Dec. 16
Luke Jones of WNST reported Schaub participated in practice Wednesday, but he noted that Jimmy Clausen took the majority of the reps.
Schaub Injury Weakened Ravens' QB Situation
Since taking over for Joe Flacco, with his first start coming in Week 12, Schaub has completed 52 of 80 passes (65 percent) for 540 yards, three touchdowns, four interceptions and a 76 quarterback rating. Backup quarterback Clausen started against the Seahawks in Schaub's absence.
According to STATS (h/t Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times), Clausen became the sixth NFL quarterback since 1950 to start against the same opponent for two different teams in the same season. Clausen was the Chicago Bears’ starter against the Seahawks in Week 3, when Jay Cutler was sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury.
Following Week 14, the Ravens agreed to terms with former Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett.
Clausen likely wouldn’t be on the Ravens roster had Flacco not suffered his knee injury. The Bears waived him on Nov. 23, and the Ravens claimed him a day later.
Clausen and Mallett are not ideal signal-callers, but the Ravens made a smart move by bringing in backups with experience. The Ravens are 4-9 and all but out of the playoff picture, but either Clausen or Mallett will get another shot to audition if Schaub misses additional time this season.
