Divock Origi vs. Southampton: Highlights and Reaction to Forward's Hat-Trick

Rory MarsdenDec 2, 2015

Divock Origi netted a hat-trick as Liverpool thrashed Southampton 6-1 in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old Belgian deflected home Alberto Moreno's rasping strike just on half-time to register his first goal for the Reds in low-key fashion.

His second was much more satisfying, a confident drive into the roof of the net after a brilliant through ball from Jordon Ibe, per World Soccer Shop:

He then completed his treble five minutes from time as he headed home Brad Smith's whipped cross from the left to cap a perfect night for the youngster and Liverpool.

YNWABible provided a replay of Origi's third:

The Liverpool Echo confirmed Origi's first club goal after some initial doubts:

BBC Sport's Phil McNulty rightly hailed Origi's second, an indication of genuine quality in front of goal from the youngster:

Meanwhile, BT Sport's Ian Darke noted that Origi's form will be very encouraging for the Reds:

Belgian football writer Kristof Terreur provided details of his one other career hat-trick.

Daniel Sturridge returned from injury to score twice against Saints, and if Origi can kick on after his first goals for the club, then manager Jurgen Klopp will be spoilt for choice in attack.

It was an impressive performance all round for the Merseyside outfit against Southampton, but Origi's was the standout performance.
