Steelers Tie Record with 6th 2-Point Conversion of Season

Bleacher Report MilestonesNov 30, 2015

Despite dropping to 6-5, the Pittsburgh Steelers tied an all-time NFL record with their sixth successful two-point conversion of the year during Sunday's 39-30 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Motivated by the offseason change in PAT rules, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has often gone for two points even in early-game situations, at least when starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been healthy.

Other teams haven't been nearly as aggressive, as Pittsburgh's nine two-point attempts are easily the most in the league, with the Seahawks and Chicago Bears tied for second at five apiece.

Despite the aggressive approach on two-point conversions, Tomlin oddly decided to get conservative at the worst time in Sunday's game, calling for Chris Boswell to kick a field goal while his team was at the Seattle 3-yard line and trailing by five points with just three minutes left in the game.

The Steelers did get the ball back, but only after allowing a game-clinching 80-yard touchdown pass from Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson to wide receiver Doug Baldwin.

The only other teams to convert six two-point attempts in a season were the 1994 Miami Dolphins and 1997 Minnesota Vikings, both of whom went on to lose in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Despite their modest 6-5 record, the Steelers undoubtedly have higher aspirations, as their offense has looked unstoppable at times with Roethlisberger at the helm.
