Lane Johnson Clarifies Comments About Eagles' Lack of Home-Field Advantage

Tyler ConwayNov 24, 2015

Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson took to Twitter on Tuesday to backtrack from his criticism of fans following Sunday's 45-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

Johnson, the Eagles' 2013 first-round pick, told Birds 24/7's Josh Paunil after Tuesday's practice that the team's fans do not offer any type of home-field advantage.

"If we get down by any significant amount of points or we don't make any first downs, we're going to get booed," Johnson said. "That's just kind of how it is. It's not really home-field advantage playing here anymore. Really, that's the truth. Cats here, they really don't care."

Paunil had asked Johnson how it felt when fans were booing the Eagles as they walked into the locker room for halftime. Tampa Bay entered the locker room with a 28-14 lead before opening it up even more in the second half. Bucs rookie quarterback Jameis Winston threw for five touchdowns, Doug Martin ran for 235 and Eagles signal-caller Mark Sanchez threw three interceptions in place of an injured Sam Bradford

"Today, they weren't very polite out there," Johnson said Sunday after the game, per Paunil. "That's typical of 'em. But you know, when we're losing everyone is mad. I know they're mad, they care a lot about this team. I care a lot about this team. It just sucks when we can't go out there and produce because I really want to win and bring a championship to this city one day."

The loss dropped the Eagles to 4-6, and they've lost consecutive weeks at home to teams that came into Lincoln Financial Field with losing records. After going 10-6 each of his first two NFL seasons, head coach Chip Kelly will have to win out to make that three straight. Given the disarray on the field Sunday and the obvious frustrations spilling out in the media, one has a hard time seeing that happening.
