Eagles' Secondary Loses Veteran Presence After Carroll's Injury
Carroll, 28, has had a solid if unspectacular season as Philadelphia's No. 2 cornerback opposite of Byron Maxwell. While that pair is hardly an elite duo at the position, they've provided some stability for the Eagles in the defensive backfield, while the safety pair of Malcolm Jenkins and Walter Thurmond Jr. has been excellent.
For an Eagles defense that gave up the second-most passing yards and was was tied for the fourth-most touchdown passes allowed, the 2015 unit has certainly been an improvement.
With Carroll sidelined, E.J. Biggers will likely take his place, though rookie Eric Rowe—who hasn't seen the field with great regularity thus far—could also be given the nod. Either Biggers or Rowe will find themselves targeted often with Carroll sidelined, so the Eagles must hope to pressure the quarterback and alleviate the attention on both corners.
